I must say, Tamia and ZM have spoiled me. I got to work at this thing. Seam lines, Flash, holes that aren't drilled, really vague instructions. But all in all? I got a big grin of my face cuz I'm having a blast! Reminds me of old Revel kits. Maybe just a bit better. I do have a little bit of a bitch. On the sprues? The parts are all numbered 1 through 50 or whatever you know? But oh my God you have to search for number 15 which could be next to number 59 which is next to number three

Haha, I kinda went bonkers with the first model I built coming back to the hobby since I was a kid. ( Don't look too close )
My brother and I were obsessed with the Rat Patrol as kids, so he sent me the series on DVD along with an SAS kit when I was in my 50s!

Not too shabby!

It looks to be in a similar grey plastic to mine: is it on the soft side? I find it easy to cut but harder to sand...

Yep it's on the soft side, feels kind of flimsy but it handles the thin glue pretty good. Meaning small parts don't melt into goo.

Oh man. I'm looking at the picture of the engine I built and that one top piece above the fan? That doesn't look right does it? It looks like maybe it should be set back more. I'll check it out here in a little bit once I get into it. Another thing I noticed yesterday was I was trying to find pictures and stuff of this contraption. Not many out there. Usually if I build an airplane I can find all kinds of pictures and stuff. Not so with this thing. Or I just don't know how to pronounce the name so Google can look it up.

you could try simplifying your search for 'Maultier' or variation of that. Have you seen this?
And 'ww2 Opel truck engine'?

Very interesting. Every one of the pictures is about all I could find on the subject also. But that's okay. I'll just throw some mud on it and spray it with water it should look just fine. Ha. So I fixed the engine. That first picture was just too goofy looking. Cuz I knew last night looking at it that what the hell is the drive belt pulley doing in front of the fan? I must have been tired cuz I looked at the next page and I saw my mistake right off. Now I have to make a a drive belt for it. I'm thinking get a strip of Tammy a tape 10 mm make it a bit thinner and then fold it in half?

fold , then slice to width ,,, or stick 2 pieces together and slice to width using a straight edge .
stack them if you need a thicker belt .
CA the end joint on the side of a pully where you can't see it

Got in a little work on the interior today. Trying to plan the assembly/painting/decaling order.
I'd like to be spraying some primer by the weekend.

Good kit. Typical Tamiya. The assembly should progress fine.
But painting? This will be my first camo job with an airbrush.

Well, finally got something done at the bench! Gonna continue thru the night until I need to hit the hay for work.

The box had some nice color artist renditions of possible paint combinations

I probably will be going with the truck cab in the typical Soviet 4bo green, but I may paint up the wooden bed box in a natural shellacked wood color. Not sure yet.
