Got some paint on, I might have to go a bit darker on the top half.

If I recall correctly, I built this kit in the late '50s early 60's(?). The fit was better then.
Many of the old Revell and Monogram kits that are still produced have poor fit and missing details that parts once had. Worn tooling, laxed process control, and softer plastic may be reasons. I built that Dauntless a few years ago for a FSM GB and although I didn't have much issues with the molding of the parts on the plane, the pilots were just deformed forms that once tried to resemble a human figure.

Cockpit cage is in one half of the fuselage. Having some fit issues fitting the halves together. Working it out.
Need to clean up some paint then will put the halves together.

I got the fuselage together and the bottom plate glued in. There are some small gaps to fill.
The wing is dry fit so I will have a chance to close those small gaps before gluing. Starting on the engine next.

I condidered submitting the Val (D3A) I was working on since it was a Dive Bomber. But I had started on it a few weeks before this GB got fired up, and I kinda lost my mojo on it, and wanted to continue the Kate/Zeke combo that was underway with the Val.

I thought I'd sit out even if I had a SBD in the stash that I was wanting to build. But I do not have the Devastator/Wildcat to go to wiith it, so why not knuckle down and join this epic GB?

Come on in!!

Trying out my new stencils
Nice!

I'm also using this GB to try new methods, got some time in the spray-garage this morning. I had sprayed the underside/gray Friday, today was all about the blue.

You can see my three bottles of custom mixed blues (salute to Stevia Ray!) back there. I washed the plastic with isopropyl, no primer (gasp!) and used the late-war navy blue as a pre-shade.

I was not worried about precision (obviously), just a general darker shade in some areas.

Then I put the middle shade of blue down. I know this is too dark to be "correct", but even though this is sota the base color-coat, I will lighten it up considerably with a heavy post-shading.

Depending on the lighting it looks way to dark, or a little too dark.

Below is after a realitively heavy post-shading session, more like a post-highlight, is that a term? Anyway, I used that light blue that was way to bright by itself to have a three-layer sandwhich of blue shades.

I'll let that sit for a few hours then clear-gloss it, I am concerned how much that will darken it, but the insignais are so dark I think the final color have enough contrast to work out.
