... My brother got back to me... He restored one of these, perhaps not the exact model; but like you explained, "US required extra bumper height, they were called 'towell rails'" 🤣
Looking at this photo though, it seems the tail lights should be clearing the rails, just!

Hope that helps!

Probably a poor model design. I dont think its so much that the bumper is in the wrong place as it is that the taillights are too low. I had a 73 Westfalia and if I recall the trunk door barely missed the bumper when you opened it, which seems to reflect your model.

So, per the instructions I'm using the bumpers for the US version. They have that second rail on top.

The back is not right. The bumper clashes with the tail lights. There were small indents for where the tail lights go, so I think those are correct. What did I miss?

Also, I wanted to show one window open (top pic), but did not know what to do with the wiper.
The windshield wipers need to be in the full down (horizontal) position in order to open the windshield. And the both fold towards the centerline.

Thanks for your insight.

Ran across this this morning and thought "this would probably make Whitecloud cringe!"

That is impressive. I don't have the artistic talent for that type of work. I used to do a lot of military aircraft (until my wife said "No more war planes") and even then I never mastered the weathering aspect to it all, especially for WWII builds. I do still might do some kind of beach diorama thingy. I had a hard time finding 1:24 scale accessories. Everything is dollhouse 1:12 scale.

Oh well your VW is so pristine I thought "he'd have a cow with the way this guys has rusted this bus up!"

Thank you for showing all the steps and the finished VW. You must have a very steady hand to do all that detailed work.

Really an amazing build! Love the little touches like the blanket on the camper's table and what looks like a tackle box next to the sink. Like I said before, your build brings back some nice memories!
Thanks JD. On the table is supposed to be a table runner. It looks really thick in the close up pics. There are throw pillows on the benches. On the door is a camp stove, but I like your imagination.
