I'm not sure whether to go with a metal color or a flat grey of some sort. In some pictures they look metal, others they look grey.

What colors mix (and brands of paint) would you recommened? Anybody have some pictures of how they painted them and would like to share your paint formula?

Might sound stupid but relatively simple, but try Tamiya's Metallic Gray XF-56. It's a bit dark but you can add some flat white to it to taste to lighten it up. Just a thought.

most of the Eta-2 fighters in line with the factory standard colors, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi were normaly red or blue hued over a white undercoat. But Anakin's was painted a metalic grey and yellow to match his pod racer hope this helps you out.

I tried grey. Didn't like it. Maybe something in Alclad or testers metalizers.

Feel free to make it up as you go.
Unless you're actually trying to duplicate a specific ship, that is.

thanks for the suggestions. I check them out.

As far as ships, I am trying to do both Obi-Wan's and Anakin's ship as part of a diorama with an Arc-170

If you want to do that then the way I described is the way Andrew Hardingham did them in return of the sith. He was the model supervisor for the movie.
