Space Robots from Outer Space

I needed a break from the tiny LED work, so I started work on the newest Space Robot. It's a work in progress. Squeaky McGee. I will add more details, wires and stuff, then paint it. I like how the arms fold back onto the legs when not in use.

I got a new camera and it's pretty awesome. Here's a few screen caps from a video I'm working on. No more blurry videos.

I ended up not using the segmented led mouth part. I will use it on something else. I wasn't happy with Andy's bug-eyed look. So I ripped his face off. haha! I got some cool flexible led strings and I can rotate the hold downs to change from smile to frown and even a silly s shape. The eye shades are movable too for more expression. Yippy!|

Years ago, tried to get the kids interested in Ableton, with midi pad and connected to electronic Piano... no takers.
Even further back, I had MIDI patch cords for my Mac SE from Roland U-20... long gone.

... and way back, tootling with a mini Moog, phase shifter, sequencer, analogue delay and reel to reel tape recorders, laying down sound track for Sony Portapack B&W videos in Art School! Yes, I'm that old!

I tried to get into Reaper, but it was too much for me to grasp. I love VCV because I just relate to creating sounds from the raw materials so to speak. I remember calling the 1800 number for Paia in the 70's as a teenager to hear the effects of their products! In 2016 I decided to build my first modular synth. I built a dual VCO and an LFO and then around that time I found VCV Rack. I resisted, it couldn't be the same as twisting knobs... Well I ended up installing it, it was version 0.6 or something. We are now at version 2.5! It is really awesome and it's totally free! I purchased some modules just to support the dev's and the project, but completely unnecessary. Thank you for your kind words.

Here is the drawing to make the drums. I started with the bass drum as a proof of concept, and it turned out so well I will be able to use it. I cut the drum body parts from several thicknesses of various materials and 0.015" polystyrene worked the best. I use inexpensive for sale signs from the home improvement stores. I still need to cut out the remaining parts and assemble them. The laser helps, but it's still a tedious assembly. Also thinking about how to form the cymbals from brass sheets. I also want to build a "pvc pipe" drum for the set.

Yup, I made a few of the ES-335's! I personally own a couple full size Les Paul's, but my fingers don't like playing anymore. haha!

Played one of these in a community bateria de samba many years ago...

Primera 24" surdo. Dancing around strapped to one of these for a couple of hours is quite a workout, believe you me!

Can't wait to see how your kit turns out!

I think I finished the basic 5 piece drums, now on to the cymbals and stands. I plan on routing links from the hidden servos under the deck to move the arms and legs. I have to make some drum sticks too. I did a quick test of the green screen behind the stage.

Thanks! I bought some 0.0065" brass sheet. I'm still perfecting the process, by making a form to press the shape. On this one I cut out a circle using scissors, I used some washers and a piece of wood with a hole in it to form the center indent. I then formed the rest of the curve over a small light bulb. I forgot to mention I heat the brass sheet before forming it becomes more pliable. I double sided taped the cymbal to a dremel sander tool and used sand paper to get the finish.

That's a great tip! I am learning to use brass rods, bars, tubes and sheet material for scratch building as well. Nothing as sophisticated, but I like the fact that the brass is soft enough to cut, bend and shape while being rigid enough, and often more to scale in thickness... have some .1mm and .03mm sheet roll. How much heat is required?
I've also been using 'Black Back' Copper Foil 1.25 mil tape used for stained glass. It is self adhesive and has come in handy more than once.

I finished up the headlights on the space ship. I made a vacuum forming puck using some wood washers and thumb tacks, then formed some clear headlight covers. I cut them out and glued them on. Now working on the interior.
