So here are some more pics of the Skua I built for the Vertical vengeance dive-bomber Group Build.
It was an interesting departure from my more comfortable zone of North African/Mediterranean soft skin and armour builds.

The 1/48 kit by Special Hobby had its challenges, and I did rectify and supplement the kit in some areas, including four guns in the wings, a 500 pound bomb, an aftermarket Vickers, and alternate Fleet Air Arm decals from Xtradecal.

Planes are very new to me, so no doubt I'll look back later and see glaring issues!
It was also my first end-to-end build with airbrush, so that was fun!
I posted in-progress updates on the group build, as well as in the 'What are you working on right now?' thread.

The build is a bit of a composite, a Skua that had seen action in the sinking of the Scharnhorst in 1940, then moved to the Mediterranean for attacks on the French fleet which the Vichy had moved to North Africa to keep out of Germany's hands. Unfortunately, Churchill wasn't convinced and they were attacked in north African harbours, just to be sure. Many French sailors were lost, resulting in complications for the later joint British American operation Torch amphibious assault.

The wheel wells still bear the black and white markings from the Norwegian campaign, but the camo has been updated for the Mediterranean theater.

Hope you enjoy the walk around.

Thanks, when I first started, to cries of "oooh dat's ugly", I wasn't too sure how it would turn out.
But it was an interesting build, and a good introduction to aircraft kits with enough issues to learn a few things while I was at it!
Nicely done! Are you sure this was your first plane? I would never have guessed.
Your kit is a nice tribute to the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm aircrew who were routin sent into harms way in this plane, frequently never to return.

Are you sure
Oh ya, but after watching the pros build their aircraft on this forum, and lots of research... And taking my time... Pretty happy with how it turned out.

Lots of room for improvement: especially seams, wing placement angle relative to fuselage, under carriage and airbrush/masking techniques... But hey, that's what my newly collected stash of Mediterranean aircraft are for! 🤔

To your point, it's a shame that this early war bird was moved into a fighter role, just to be quickly outmatched almost immediately after its early dive bombing successes.
If I understand correctly, sometime in 1941 it was replaced and moved into trainer/target tug duties!
