Hi Guys
Here is my third entry in this years competition, another diorama!
I was trying to find a car to build, but couldn't find any that I fancied so another dio it is!
This will be a small diorama showing a Panzer 1 during the Battle of France crashing through a wall.
I am going to try and put plenty of interest into a small space, fingers crossed.
Here's the proof of entry pic
I started up by making up the base of the Panzer, which is the tiny but so far excellent Dragon kit. This is so I could set the size and position of the base and the wall.
There was plenty of sanding of mould seams to do, but no problems with the kit so far
I have had to leave the tank aside as I want the suspension and the tracks to take the contours of the wall it will be rolling over, so on to the base next
I picked up 500 these individual bricks and as I want the wall to look as if it has been smashed into I decided a realistically built wall would suit the best
So to fix the bricks I have used some Vallejo sandy paste which I had knocking around as cement
Heres the first run
And the finished wall
The reverse side of the wall has had a fine coat of wall filler to represent a layer of render
Next I used some air drying clay to make individual cobbles for the road side. The last time I tried this I used one slab of clay and impressed blocks into it and it actually bent the MDF base so to play it safe this time I cut the blocks individually off the base and glued them on one by one and no bending has occurred! It also meant I could get a more uneven look to the cobbles
The rendered side was first painted with acrylics to give a worn look and then I painted in an advertising sign on by hand again with acrylics
The sign and rendering is the reason for building the wall first before knocking a tank sized hole in it, hopefully the finished scene will have part of the wall with the sign on still standing!
I also started painting up the cobbles too.
I think I will have to pretty much finish the base and the broken wall before I can get onto the tank itself
Thanks for looking
