Hi everyone,

I was given a 1/48 scale model F-104C "Firepower Series" by Lindberg. I am a retied Lockheed Skunkworks Aero Engineer, an A&P mechanic and an avid scale model builder. I have worked on or been on the following aircraft programs P-38, P-3C, S-3B, F-117A, F-22, F-35 A/B/C, SSTO, and others. I have been able to work on a few of Darryl Greenamyer F104s so I wanted to build a model of another of the aircraft I have actually worked on. It is a very basic model, I realized I could improve it and found that the Aires detail kits for the Hasegawa model would fit nicely, so I bought the resin kits for the Cockpit, Wheel Well, and Engine/Tailpipe, might get the rear avionics bays and ammo magazine kit as well.

Looking at the left fuselage I realized the 20mm Vulcan was not modeled in the kit. Can any help with what the profile of the 20mm gun area on left side of the fuselage should be? I wish I had a junk 1/48 104 fuselage in my scrap box where I could section out the 20mm area and graft into the model.

Thank you all in advance

Not sure it fits your need for a "profile", but here's the cannon on a Kinetic F104 I built last year.

Yes sir. This was in the late '80s, when the F-104s were just about at the end of their service lives.
I was actually making a reference to a joke in Germany at the time, "What's the easiest way to obtain a Starfighter?" "Buy a piece of land and wait for one to crash on it." :)

But seeing that thing making a low level pass with the 'burner lit made quite an impression!
You may want to watch this, then :)

That's a video about a train hijacking in the Netherlands in 1977, and its resolution. YouTube can probably put up automatic subtitles if you click the gear icon.

I just bought a partially assembled 1/48 Testors F-104C on eBay for 14.00 to be a donor for the 20mm gun area. It has some other items that I will also be able to use. The Lindberg kit does not have the speed brakes modeled the Testors kit does. I will be configuring the F-104C in an A to A role so wing tip AIM 9 s, drop tanks on the wing pylons and 2 more AIM-9 s on the dual belly rail pylon.

Those aren't wings, they're fins!

Just kidding, but if you have ever touched the leading edge of one you'd think the same.
