I removed the Stick-in-the-Boot TM ;D

... . no man in my squad is to be running about with said things . We are properly equipped !



As you can see , he has additional ammo stows .
The bolt-actions have been replaced with the G-43 and MP-44 throughout .
MP-40 holders remain unchanged other than additional ammo stowage


cleaning-up and opening up , and fixing phalanges :





The MB heads have chin-straps , but the detail only exists at the front so I had to sculpt in the back-side .
The Dragon heads have no chin-straps so they all need to be sculpted in :



And Repeat And Repeat And



Some disparities in scale -

All the guns are the same size across the manufacturers , but Tamiya's stick-grenades and Panzerfaust are much smaller .
The Panzerfaust came in several flavors so I'll give them a pass on that one , but the PotatoMashers are 25% undersize .
MB in yellow styrene :



Much more importantly is the small helmet size .
Tamiya's all about the giant hands and shrunken heads with these guys ...

Why I'm swapping out the two heads with some Hornet ones :





.. .. . Look how much the arm needed to move @ his left elbow to make the pose work : :
( I swear his buddy's hand was the size of his torso OOB ,,, he still needs more work too ) :




He's supposed to have the MG trained flat , but as produced you need to seriously alter one or both hands and arms to make ANY pose with that MG work .
I went with the muzzle slightly upward as it works better , so now I need to build up his right arm where Tamiya thinks the butt-stock is . was . uh ...

- so basically , the Tamiya figs are just templates out of the box ;D




I'm using #2 and #3 in this set and only #2 has a full cranium :




I might replace this guy's head also --- when I get to him : ( # 3 )



.... .. . yeah . I don't think we'll be seeing that half-head again .

Some real great mods going in to your figures like how you have drilled out the sleeves on there jackets real nice touch and those head will add more drama to your dio than tamiyas shrunken heads

Update .
finally ;D



Stand by for some krappy pics , but they're good enough to communicate what is going on

... and yes , there will be a Panther ( mit 88 8) ) in the dio ...







The gray guy is carrying an MG 42 and an ammo can



.. I should put a wheelbarrow in his hands and fill it with Christmas presents just to confuse ( maybe I do that for the season each year ;D )






There will be two more figs -
The Panther's loader leaning out the rear turret hatch yelling to an infantry at the left rear of the tank .

Also ,
I'll do a building facade along the side where the Panther is over the curb .
The final base needs to be a bit larger ,,, this was just convenient scrap that was available for testing the layout .

I like this as a building reference :




..... . I might make something similar and cast some more from it . ( without the tidy pile of ashlar )

Now that my frustration with the camera has passed

the point guard :

This is honestly baptism-by-fire for me . ;D . This is the first of any figures I've done .) well , except the Giraffe pilot I never finished ..)
I've been stockpiling people and heads for one dio in the works specifically , but it's time to trot 8)

... getting the correct neck-length seems to be slow-going for me and I'm still iffy on one , maybe two of 'em but not by much .
I replaced and re-posed 7 of the 14 heads .
The one MB set with the 3 guys running is pretty much OOB except for up-armament / re-posed heads, chin-straps
The Dragon figs are actually pretty decent but require a LOT of knife and file work .

I have 3 figs from Dragon and Zvezda ( who uses Dragon molds ? ) to produce the additional ones for the Panther ,

I've started into the Panther ,

I have the two Tamiya Panther G's to pull from and a set of Tamiya's individual track-links .
She'll have some suspension posed up&down over rubble and the street curb .

But it's always all about the GUN :


I was going to just give her the 75 mm L-100 , but then I started thinking 88 .

I have an 88 L-100 barrel on the way -- - - I ordered it without doing the math : , so it will most likely need to be cut down . We'll see .

... so the turret must be modified .
It will fire the 88mm X 770 mm ( totally invented but quite logical 8) )


First the breech end is lengthened so I can fit it properly :



rear of turret removed :



Using an AM rear hatch ( Artisanmori.web.fc2.com ) that will need further added to negotiate the increased slope of the rear bulkhead :





The turret needed to be legthened out front by 7 mm ( ~ 10" @ scale ) to allow full depression of the breech into the turret basket



... so the forward hatches needed to be moved to allow uninhibited operation regardless of the turret position .
The periscopes will be relocated to the hatches


Only the very lower , outboard corners of the reinforced mantlet need to be trimmed slightly to clear the hatches :



It will also be getting range-finder blisters on the forward flanks



This will be called the Panther K 8) -- and I can't wait to start painting her !! Gonna be super-cool ;D



There's going to be 6 new figures added with the Panther .
Well maybe we call it 5 and a half figs ;D , since you'll only be able to see the TC's left hand and arm and back ..

There will be 5 figs on the ground to the left of the Panther & the corner of the building with the loader hanging out of the rear hatch shouting down to them ...

Think the size of building is just about right with all the action going on with the tanks and figures you're eyes will be draw to a hundred different angels if it get to high you wont be able to see from the one side ....

I was wondering if I should go further opposite the existing building .


I'll end it at about the edge of the sidewalk on the Sturmschildkrote side and end the building as pic'd .

Dont know how you could do it but could you make holes in the base for shell holes if the building are going to be damaged then the street would have some biss shell craters too..

I'm not planning on any craters in the street .

I've been looking over tons of period streets in Google Images .
I want to do a paved surface , so smooth . no pave-stone .

I see this as a short side/back-street , with the building representing the back end of a large building with a bank as the primary tenant - the windows would begin on the floors above
The plinth with the basement windows will be similar to the previous reference photo , the pilasters will be divided with the large running bond stone ,
like the lower half here :

the fields in between will be plastered brick .

The opposite side of the street has a cafe , hotel rear entrance , tailor ??? , small businesses at street level with wood and glass store-fronts , so there will be a lot of that type of material broken up in the debris ... . signs etc

Not too much mega damage from something like air-raid grande or an artillery barrage . Street fighting with small arms and cannons .

I'm thinking : build the base and the second floor separated .
cast the two to get masters .
add battle damage to the primary
cast another master
add more damage
repeat
........ then I'll have the ability to cast them with varying degrees of injury .

probably make the sections between the pilasters separate pieces . If I just make those 4 zones separate modules , then I can create masters with or without different types of fenestration.
Then build a master for the next floor , taller with different but compatible architecture , done in the same manner .
That way they're interchangeable . Making the ends separate corner pieces allows the thing to be as short or long as needed ..

Then you're no doubt familiar with the Bronco .

. .. we were puzzled to see them in the hanger-bay .
I went up to vultures row with a couple of guys in my division to watch them take off.
They had no problem getting airborne with plenty of flight-deck remaining . Flank speed into the wind will do that
Sadly , I remember that at least one was lost .
