Been working on the stern :

New exhaust -- sprue , 4.75 mm aluminum tube ,Aves and Tamiya putty

Setting up to construct the mounting bracket .
The flange faces are cemented to the sprue and then putty is built up to form the ring :

Hopefully the stern will be complete by Monday :p

I need to build the framing to attach the air cleaner housing , then the infantry call box and phone that mounts below it .
Hopefully I can squeeze some dirt-tools in ,, , the starting handle at the very least ..

The PE fenders are pretty straight forward and BIG as far as PE goes but they require rolling the little hing sections and I don't enjoy that :(

Ciao

Gonna be way past Monday to finish the aft end ;D

Didn't get in any building yesterday on this thing BUT , I did manage to get to ModelMania .
It was a really good show .
The vendor area was substantial to say the least :D .
John ( Grendels ) took video of the spread so you'll be able to check his video out ,,

This camera on my phone still sux ( imagine that ) so I took only a smattering of pics , most of which are krap .

I did accidentally ;) buy these two fig kits on the right for 5 bucks each ,
So I have these 17 figs to pull from to assemble around 8-10 behind the beast .
... I'm stoked to now have a guy with a flamethrower 8)

20160424_141411_zpsh8balum1.jpg

on with the STURMSCHILDKROTE :

I always build things in " modules " ::)
I like to do everything possible to components prior to assembly - including the bulk of the weathering .Don't like building into my way - - and for the most part build stuff pretty much how it would be done in 1:1 ( sans the bridge-cranes , torches & safety-gear )

I sanded away the bolt-heads of the PE exhaust flanges and applied styrene 'nutted-studs' ( Wave Co )...The PE 'bolts' are pretty weak -- the kit parts are better , but I needed the flanges after over-drilling the kit ones for larger pipes .
Way more better now

Brush applied ' corrosion ' to be over-sprayed , lightly , with lightened body color :

MMMMMmmmmmmmmmm

Well , posting pics always always shows me where I gotta do some work .
Pretty happy with it thus far . . it needs more detail in the weathering . . and of course the rest of EVERYTHING :p
I guess I'll weather and mount the air filter housing next .
Then the tool box -- where it normally goes on the right side .
I think I can incorporate some hand-tool mountings into the support framing for the air-cleaner housing .

and the fenders -- with my little friends , the tiny hinges that need be rolled , ::) :p :p
but it will be worth it . the kit fenders are pretty 'clunky' :-[

One pick from the show ( really the only pick half decent from about 10 of this one tank :( )
This was my favorite build out of all the armor -- and there was nothing but really impressive work :

Ciao ;D

Very nice progress on this.

As for the last photo, I had a debate with a guy at the show, did he sculpt the figure from the photo? Or is the photo of the figure?????

;D ;D ;D ;D Ha ahaha

I'm pretty sure he assembled it using the photo as a guide .

I wondered when and where the pick is from and if it's all scratch .

... . you know the dog is drunk too ...

Hmmm . :)

How many A-55 's we got :

20160425_143801_zpsh607von6.jpg

one tiny one . . . . one curvy one ..

But wait !
Another A-55 ?

20160425_143927_zpsiydumvje.jpg

so many peoples over there that they're tight on numbers ! ::)

Well -- at least we know it's Genuine Voyager ;)

Well known for their Fantastic! instruction-thingies ( are they really instructions ? ) ....

Below you can see the strap - A-24 - :( I cut it free from the fret and cut off the lttle tongue that looked like the fret 'gate' :p :p
You must look before you leap with these number-poor , acid printers ... !!!!

20160425_143454_LLS_zps6lyzpvyd.jpg

Weathering in progress for the dirt can :

20160425_193924_zpskdywhudd.jpg 20160425_193905_zpsyfsawaz4.jpg20160425_193835_zpsgsjkftcl.jpg

Assault Tortoise Away !!!! heave-hO . :p

I ended-up mangling the tiny clasp that hooked to the now missing tongue that I accidentally cut off :p
so I put a new latch together from spares .... I think it actually looks more convincing than the original ;D

20160426_152036_zpsxhjoffyt.jpg

Ready for paint and then I'll use the 2 mm rod it's welded atop to also mount it on the rear bulkhead :

20160427_120109_zpsebkws02z.jpg

I set up this ' booth ' from foam-core with some 99 cent Harbor Freight magnets hot-glued in the corners so I can just throw it up ---- the camera still sux ;)

20160427_123308_zpsuwzcu0s9.jpg

I thought I could use that multi-LED lamp I salvaged from trash , but it has a very violet output .
Never noticed until I put it in that all white surround . :(
.... it was making the pics all terracotta tinted .. greens-to-orange :p . Shown directly on the foam-board it was quite purple ...

The air-cleaner is just held on by a 2 mm positioning rod .
The frame will be built beneath it out of 4.7 mm I-beam ( 6.5" scaled )

;D Thanks , Q

I started a bit of weathering on the back-half .
.. Thinking it's a bit heavy , so I'll come back over with some of the camo colors to fix it

I'm taking an average of ~ 10 pics to get one decent . :(
sometimes I take dozens and then give up .. . blurry , blurry , blurry ,too dim , blurry , weird color , more weird , blurry .... :p :p :p

What causes the horizontal lines in the screen / pics ?
I was thinking I was getting the phone too close to the lamp but it happens plenty far away and seems to be triggered by bright light / hi-contrast ???
Pain in tha ------- !

Thoughts ?
Suggestions ?

I'm thinking some faded camo-colors at the chipping edges will bring it more together :) , yeah ?

working on the air-cleaner mount , then I can attach the fenders

Ciao

Thanks , BeebleBrox ;D

I detoured to the bow for a bit while primer cured on some stuff ..

I was going to just prep pieces for construction but ended up fully assembling the apron .
It will now need to have various lengths of chain trimmed ...

48 hooks

I highly recommend this little Harbor Freight vise .
I paid something like 13 -14 bucks with a coupon and I use the heck out of it ;D

It's the perfect size for the bench .
The vacuum base works perfectly but I never use it since it has plenty of mass to remain stable .

Back row of hooks installed :

Two rows of chain installed .
I about got the spacing too tight for installion :p , but was able to bend the hooks around to work the chain in since they're CA 'd into 2 + mm deep holes .
Quite robust construction ;D

Here's what this ' camera ' software usually produces -
It was giving me mostly these straw colored bars this morning . More so than most days
it likes the straw-bars

... I guess it doesn't want to work on Sunday ;)

Thanks , ND ;D

& here's one more update for the day -

Welds & a single wash :

She'll get armor plate (s ) bolted on --- I haven't decided what exactly .
I want to have one side's mounts partially or fully exposed , with battle damage etc ??? ???

A couple are already bent to facilitate this

Thanks , Q :)

The dirt-can is installed , needs some detailing but it's 90 % :

I was " window-shopping ' Hobby Link Japan last week , uh-oh ;D , and I saw some Master Box figs that I had to have .

I found them @ Scale Hobbyist for the same price , but it's of course cheaper to ship ... and quicker
( I ordered them Thursday night , shipped Friday and arrived Monday . Fantastic ! )

20160502_193619_zpsmhfnjjkf.jpg

I saw those guys running and I had to have them in the dio 8)
... . . the other figs and weapons were purchased accidentally . Of course ;) ooops

Ciao

Your doing a amazing job with this so much work put in and you can see its paying off loom forwardto seeing more

Thank you kindly , geegad ;D

Getting ready to assemble the rear fenders :

quite the little build in themselves .. ( kit-part @ right )

20160503_224419_zpsly71pz8x.jpg

I'm replacing the PE wingnuts with Bronco's resin offering .
The PE have detail on one side only , as usual ;) - bonding two back-to-back produces a cool product , but it requires a bit of work to finish the joint and more importantly the finished wingnut scales to 1/2 thick :p

20160503_144842_zpsfyzm0ibk.jpg
20160503_144943_zpsecxwl0uk.jpg

I've started on the infantry .

Right out the gate , on the first MB figure , I find strangeness 8) :

This guy has torn trousers ?

20160505_202724_zps5u3ot1rf.jpg

OK , nice detail .
He also has this odd depression just above his boot , , and that boot is pushed outward like there's supposed to be a knife or something stuck in there ???

20160505_202804_zpsocworcou.jpg

He's the only one that has a boot that pooches out at all . Nothing in the drawings . ?

I'll decide what to do before priming .
Hopefully I can assemble at least one per day .
- It's a lot of cleanup and needle-file work restoring details prior to glue-up ::)

I ordered another Sturmpionier set , to get another flamethrower ;D :

DML00006146_0_l_zps9wxiuysp.jpg

... that operator has an ideal pose for my application

I don't like the pose of the operator I currently have :

20160505_213504_zpsu0xpdcb3.jpg

... So I'll put his flamethrower on this line-layer below ,
He has the perfect pose but the wrong gear :

20160505_202820_zpsp8ojeoui.jpg

Ciao ,

Uru

Quick update .

Figures Figures Figures ;D

I'm doing 14 infantry total .

7 Dragon , 5 Master Box and 2 Tamiya :

20160509_074702_zpsprydb1i4.jpg

The only figure I need to re-pose is the phone-talker - and all he needs is for his left arm and hand repositioned with phone-to-face :

20160509_082528_zpsbsnlp8si.jpg

Other than all the clean-up , some sculpting- building is required .

Like removal of the line-layer's cast-on :p back-board and construction of a frame for the fuel tanks :

20160507_145330_zpse96y3xxf.jpg20160507_161119_zpse5cz2wr6.jpg

The additional flamethrower operator hasn't made it here yet -- - so I don't know if I can use him OOtB or not .
.. .. but he has nice plastic dish awaiting him , with label and everything ;D

Master Box is certainly the superior product within this lot .
Higher part count provides better details -

20160509_082544_zps8vtyiqll.jpg

... Those separate coattails really help ;)

I'm going over the Dragon figs with knife , file & chisels to refine the details .

Really wanted to avoid using any Tamiya figs , but the 2 I've chosen have poses that work really well for this .
Lots of sculpting work on those two . :p

It's worth the effort .
This is going to be EPIC ;D

Ciao
