I'm building the Uma Harrier. Brand new tooling. I've never run across PE that I don't have to snip out and then sand down the nub. Is this possibly a new process? Just wondering because it sure was nice

This is actually how some of the earliest photoetched sets were, in the 1980s. But it's more expensive because the manufacturer has to put sticky plastic onto both sides, which I'm guessing is why few still do this (except mainly Chinese kit manufacturers).

Wow, really? 1980? That's pretty advanced stuff for 1980. All I know is it was nice not to have to cut out anything they came out just perfectly and you know what I think? If they do PE like this for ships? I would not hesitate to get a big battleship. As it is? All that PE for a big battleship? If you got to work at getting it out and sanding off Nubs of those railings? No thank you buddy that sounds like a lot of tedious work for a guy with Better Eyes

I'm trying to recall the brand name that used to have sets like this, but it's not On The Mark and also not Airwaves, as looking those up on Scalemates, all I see are etched sets where the parts are attached to the fret as usual.

Meng uses that thick plastic coating even with nubs, I think it helps, definitely prevents accidental launches!

I've considered trying to put clear packing tape on some before, but feared the adhesive would be too strong.

I was looking at it thinking "what is this guy talking about, I see nubs". Then I saw there were nubs inside of some parts, only took a second or two to understand and feel dumb, just thought I'd share my embarrassment.

Wait a minute. I'm lost with what you said. Nubs inside of some parts? I have to clear this up cuz with the way my mind works I won't rest. I have no idea what you mean by Nubs on the inside. That PE in the last picture for this certain model has no Nubs. It is just perfect and all you got to do is take it off the tape. The last Model I built had some PE. You had to snip it out of the brass sheet and then sand down the nub if there was a nub. So please point out the Nubs inside some parts because I'm kind of confused

Because you photographed it on your cutting mat that has white lines printed on it, it looks at first sight like the parts are attached to the fret.

Okay. That's funny. Because I went through everything trying to figure out and I'm like he must be talking about the white lines on the cutting mat cuz it kind of looks like they're connected. No worries.

Oh believe me. Some of the stupid **** I've done. And quite recently I might add. I had a little piece of 3D cockpit decal. I saw it fly right past my left eye and from there it disappeared. I searched for hours. The next day I'm building my model and my hair brushes my lamp which hangs right over my work and what Falls onto my cutting board? Yep that little piece went flying past my eye but somehow hit something and then got stuck on the lamp. I laughed. But at myself. My wife working in the Next Room goes what are you laughing at? I said just some of the stupid things that happen in life
