If you can get it, this stuff is supposed to be really good and doesn't harm the plastic. Pantherman

I will get that for sure but good news, checked my soaking pickup bed this morning and was able to rub some of it off with a little effort from my thumb! I'm going to let it continue soaking for a couple days and I'm thinking it would scrub off easily by the weekend.

That engine's pretty sweet!
Thanks for the props! I initially had thought about running the plug wires over the valve covers but then thought I didn't really want to interrupt the detail of the valve covers since they came out really nice and this also gives it a more natural look of gravity having them fall behind the head like they are. That flex fan is super fragile cuz it's assembled with CA and glued on with CA. I was handling it with kit-gloves while I was installing it because one bump would have trashed it.

Definitely need to keep checking it though as I forgot to check on a soaking jar of plastic parts and ended up with 1 giant piece of plastic in the bottom of the jar. Pantherman

something else for sure .
neither sodium hydroxide nor alcohol will attack polystyrene

'haha , yeah , that usually has a good amount of acetone in it -- stuff like Klean Strip lacquer thinner from the hardware store .
sometimes other organic solvents too --- " lacquer thinner " is like the word " beer " , doesn't tell you much -- always check the SDS

Coming into this thread pretty late... my mother (may she rest in peace) used to tell me, "Age is a state of mind!" and she and my dad climbed the Great Wall of China in their 70's... so all of that is to say life is short, GO FOR IT! Welcome back to the hobby!

Thank you for the welcome. I've believed in that adage for most of my life as well, although I'm pretty sure diving into a scale model isn't quite the same as the Great Wall!

Opinions please. What is the best varnish to use that will polish up to a nice shine without damaging the Vallejo acrylics. I have available to me Vallejo Gloss, semi-gloss, and matte varnishes and I also have Alclad ll Aqua gloss and high gloss. Could I get recommendations on any of these or others that I'm unfamiliar with?

The vallego gloss will not give you a highly polished shine. More of a satin finish. Pantherman
