It seems most if not all 1/72 kits for modern jets like the F-18, F-14 etc.. all give the special or unique "high vis" markings for the CAG birds, typically more colorful fancy paint jobs

from what I understand they pick one or two birds (typically the CAG and CO) and paint them that way

Is there a good source for 1/72 decals of just your run of the mill generic markings/numbers for the rest of the birds?

Thanks!

I have been a bit scared to order from 1001 Hobbies. They always seem to have models you can find no where else in stock for the original MSRP or close to it. So much so that it sometimes feels like it might be a scam or could take months to get something

I am curious if anyone here has ever order from them

There are plenty of aftermarket sheets out there with "line bird" markings for Navy/Marine aircraft. While I haven't ever ordered from 1001 Hobbies, from what I see their prices are almost always higher than other sources, sometimes significantly. My go to on-line hobby shops are:

https://spruebrothers.com/
and

https://www.kitlinx.com/index.html
Sprue Brothers is limited to in-stock items, but they have a pretty good inventory. Kitlinx is able to order things in for you, which can therefore take a bit longer, but they also have more options. Both stores have better prices than 1001.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Michael

Thanks for the Kitlinx link , but they ain't showing much at all for 1/72 decals -- unless I'm just not navigating the site properly .

Blake, my go to sites for extra decals is

https://www.hannants.co.uk/and
https://www.ultracast.ca/1-48-scale-Decals-s/108.htm Hannants, if you catch the sale is grand, shipping is pretty steep nowadays.
And Ultracast is pretty steep out of the gate,
but there are some rare sheets and they know what their doing.
UMM/USA used to carry a small line of decals
and the dudes forte is 1/72. His selection of kits is very esoteric. Some very wild stuff.
And after rereading your original post. Yeah, Areomaster, SuperScale and a couple others who escape me right now, all carry generic sets for numbers and letters to mock up fleet birds.
And one that just came to mind.
Starfighter Decals.
