Hi Guys

With the competition out of the way its onto the next project, another abandonded famous car. This time its the Delorean time machine from Back to the Future.

I want to do this as if it was hidden behind the Lyons Estate sign and then, due to some change in the past/future, Marty never came back for it and the Lyons Estate was never built. So the scene will just be the Delorean and the sign, with both being reclaimed by the elements!

The kit I'm using is the Halcyon 1/24 scale kit which I bought online as an abandoned project, it looks like a kid had a go and got bored, so I'm gonna rescue the kit!

This is what the kit looked like when I opened the box

Whatever paint had been used on the car had melted the plastic in some places and some panel lines were quite faint, so I got some stripper on the kit and after some hard scrubbing I managed to get it all off. I then dried it off and sanded it by hand to get rid of the worst of the melted layer. I then used a hobby knife to re-scribe the panel lines. While is was at it I cut off the 4 lots of wiring around each wheel arch and will replace these with better wiring later on.
As for the interior I'm not spending any time stripping the gaudy red & blue paint as I am going to do a thick layer of dirt and dust over the windows so the interior won't show, so just I just sprayed it black.

Ifinished building up the kit, which didn't take too long and then shot a primer coat of black followed by a coat of vallejo model air steel, fortunately the sanding had got rid of the melted areas

I then painted in some more details and started some panel line washes to bring out the detail.

Thats all for now, I've got some more painting to do before I can get this together and then I'll try and get the sign planned out.

Thanks for looking

Will be watching this build, Back To The Future is my all time favorite movie. I think I will hunt down this kit, and have a go at it in the Future......

Hi All

As i'm doing a back to the future build I decided to watch the films this week and was surprised how well they've stood the test of time (pardon the pun!)

Anyway I got the chassis on and all the details painted up...

..and although it seems a shame after getting it right, after a coat of gloss I gave it the first coat of heavy oil weathering, after all this has supposed to have been sat around for decades so I layed it on thick!

Leaving this to dry I started on the base. I am going to show the Delorean sitting abandoned behind the Lyon estates sign, so after getting hold of the sign image and fading it back on the PC, I printed it and then could work out the dimensions of the sign. I then built the sign from plastic stock

Then started creating a tree from wire

Before breaking out the wall filler to make the ground work and to coat the tree

I have started painting up the sign tonight, but I'll save that till next time

Dude your builds are always so interesting, its one thing being good at building/painting models but to have the ideas you have and to actually create those ideas flawlessy is an amazing talent. Well done.

aww man now i want to watch them...... Awsome job, like you do any less ;D

Cheers Guys, glad you like it!

I seem to have found myself doing a series of abandoned famous cars and have more at the back of my mind yet.

I've done the Herbie diorama, and before that the General Lee as below:

I'll keep you posted on the Delorean!

Yes, I remember that General Lee...
Still as awesome as ever!!!!!
Love it, and can't wait to see what you come up with next

Really love this one.
It's one thing to have talent and technique but in the end,for me, it's the story being told that's the most important. And this ones right on!
Cheers!

Hi Guys

This ones going together quick, so heres the latest progress
After last weeks oils had dried I sealed it ready for the next layer of browny grey oil

I finished up making the tree and painted and dry brushed it, I then mixed white glue with soil for the base
The sign took a lot of painting, first airbrushing the base coat of grey's then washes and a lot of brush painting to depict the fading white paint.

Finally I glued the Lyon Estates sign to the front. Once this has dried I will airbrush varnish over it ready for some more weathering.

Leighbo, this is too cool!!! Love the General Lee as well. Very creative!!!

And, of course, no rust on the DeLorean because of the stainless steel construction.
Excellent little Dio here

nice i love where your going but those tires would be dead flat after all this time (Kinda like in the # III moovie when shes left in a cave)

I agree Neo, the only problem is they are solid tyres!

I'm trying to cover that problem with some moss and grass growing up them

Leighbo, very nice and creative works. Especially the way the Gen. Lee hangs suspended in the air.
Keep up the great work. Bill
