Here is the Cold War jet I mentioned in my introduction to this site. It is the old Fujimi 1/72 F-4J UK which is basically just a refurbished ex USN F-4J Phantom. I have the cockpit tub built, painted and just installed the IP decals last night. No seats or sticks as of yet, slow but steady wins the race.

Seems like there are some Phantom aficionados here so I'll ask...

Do you know of any good guides for changing a slat wing to a hard wing? Subject matter is an E model, most of which had the slats, but the Thunderbirds used the earlier wing.

That's beyond my experience.

Go here and read this article. I have 2 F-4E Phantom kits by Fujimi, one slatted and one hard wing,go to Scalemates and download both kits instructions and you will see the difference.

They were NOT totally built in USA OR UK. The frames were modified and assembled in USA-Hawker Siddley and Rolls Royce did a lot of the work on the British specs so you cannot say they were TOTALLY built in either country. They were far more British than American.

Ah, OK. I was under the impression that the airframes were built in the USA and that British companies mainly supplied parts and did some outfitting once the planes arrived in the UK.

Decals arrived today for my other 1/72 Fujimi build-an F-4EJ hard wing.

Are you familiar with bicentennial color scheme for the usmc? The color scheme I have labels sections as h8 but then don't provide h8 in the listing. I found a photo and am guessing it's a typo and should be h18 , which is "steel". But the instructions also shade the diagram different for h8 than h18.

I guess you are talking about the horizontal stabilizer. I have always gone with aluminum on the outside and inside steel then aluminum on the other outside of the stab. I have seen a LOT of times they call out colors on the instructions but never list the color at all anywhere. I also stopped using silver and went with aluminum, liked the duller sheen aluminum has.

Sorry, yes that was exactly what I was referring to. Thanks for your reply and the pic! I noticed in your pic there is a strip on th stabilizer that is a different shade than the rest- that was what I am confused about. Why is tha different?

It"s a different material or a mix of different types of the main material which is Titanium. The stabilizers have Titanium, an Aluminum box frame and honeycombed mixtures. See Air Force and Navy pictures below.
