Eduard Messerschmitt Bf 110 1/72

Hey everyone, and thank you for the comments. I've completed fixing the decals, and while they took a bit of getting used to (you only had to threaten to show them to some water for them to be ready to fix!) once I got the hang of using them, they were pretty good. There also weren't nearly as many pernickety little ones as I thought. There were some printing imperfections which I didn't notice until I got them on the dark background of the model, which was a shame. Still, this is where I'm up to:

Next up - weathering.

Thanks for looking,

OK, so I've been giving the weathering a try. I wanted to do exhaust stains, chipping and a pin wash and this came out all right, not great and down right terrible, respectively.

First I added the exhaust marks on the underside...

...and then attempted a pin wash

I just found it impossible to get it precise enough - I applied the wash on top of a gloss coat and tried ground up chalk pastels and watercolours, even with some detergent in to break the surface tension, but the mix would just not flow as it does on the youtube tutorials! This is the reason it looks so messy - cleaning up was a nightmare. I'll keep trying, but any tips would be greatly appreciated.

On the topside, I did exhaust stains...

I didn't attempt a wash on top because my previous attempt looked so poor. I had been pleased with the build this far, but the weathering lets it down, sadly. Still, learning all the time...

Hey everyone, so, after my foray into weathering, I've decided to call time on this model. Its not perfect, but after a coat of Humbrol Satin Cote, it's not looking to bad either.

I'm not too pleased with the underside.

But apart from that...

It now has pride of place on my bookcase/model shelf!

Thanks for looking and for all your comments along the way.

Cheers,

Yeah, nice build. Don't fret about weathering. Next pin wash try using an artist
oil color. Should flow effortlessly along panel lines. :)
