I found this picture online, and fell in love.
In the Hyperweapon book there are some pictures of a robot build from this picture.

So, I happened to have just gotten a very cheap, old MG zaku I from Ebay.
It was stripped, deconstructed and cleaned, leaving me with a pile of parts:

Then the parts that I’d use were build again, and glued.

Then the torso was build and expanded with plastic, clay and bits.

Somehow I never took too many pics in between

And it's here now, just a bit more sanding and I can start detailing, paneling and cabling...

Build the torso shell from Perry Rhodan Glador kit bits, an old 1/600ish bismarck (aurora), a bicycle lamp and 1/32 lightning wings.
Hands are from an old robot kit, not sure of the name.

I've a deja vu

Great project!

What's wrong with the hip you ask? Just not wide enough for my taste..

Thanks Strusch... yeah, I've been spamming this all over the interwebz ;P

As for the hips, it's like breasts, some like them small, some like them large :p

On fichtenfoo, Fransesco (patapazzo) just posted the link to the blog of Alaya, the guy who build the one in the hyperweapon book (you've got the book/scans yet?)
Worth the read/watch, now I know how he made it, I fee lstupid for not seeing it earlier :S

Started with some innershell details, bike parts and 1/24 engine.
Deviating from the original for my own taste now. My shell is larger anyway, so I need more (and different) filling.

And punching holes for the grid thingy.

Looking real good - I esp like the groovy shell section! Take care to place the niftiest parts so, that they won't be seen after it's finished: This will drive some crazy ;)

That last word I don't quite get ;P

In the meantime I added some stuff to the shell, wires, cover part and small stuff.

I think I'll add this cover as well.

And wires, more wires!

Oh yeah, like you we are quite the forum sluts, we do 'em all :p

But now you found out my secret passion for non-ma.k.
Prepare to DIE!

Thanks mate ;D

Excellent progress and an interesting design. This is a wicked model ;D

Glad to have the great Lin.k's approval :p

SAFS torsos were indeed used for the original build, I didn't know and I don't have two left over (hell, not even one) to fix up the legs.
But I like it anyway, so no problem there.

Thanks Ohm!

Between work and kids, everything is taking too long, but here are some more recent pictures of progress.
Also finally got my scribing template, tested it on the left leg yesterday.

Some other progress include; hands, gaiters, stockings, cables, cut-outs, shoulder shields and other stuff.

Now I just need to scribe the rest of his legs and shell part, add cables, add detail stuff, finish his gaiter thingy and... well something, maybe even paint.

hehehe, it's 1/35 scale, so not so much giant as large.

^_^

But almost done, which would mark the first build finished in about 8 months.

Finishing something would indeed be a time to break open the Gaia and start tripping.
Now to buy some Gaia.
