Hello everyone! One of the projects I've been working on has been printing and painting resin miniatures for use in the wargame Dawn of Iron. These ships were a lot of fun to paint and something far away from my usual wargaming science fiction subjects. I have several completed examples I would like to share with the Forum. All miniatures so far are from East Coast Ironclads printed i. 1/600 scale.

Mississippi River Squadron with some armed tugs and a shore battery. These ships all have the unique colored bands that the historical ships had, but I should have made them bigger because they're hard to see.

An armed tug. These are generic enough to be used for either side.

Well that's all for now of the completed ships. I have four more that are close to being finished.

Thank you! It's pretty interesting from a wargaming perspective because there are so many unique ships.

Thank you!!! I've mostly played sci-fi games like BattleTech and various space ship games. Looking over the rules for Dawn of Iron (haven't played yet!) look really good. The author was involved with Flames of War if you've played that.

I've not played Flames of War but have seen lots of people playing it at my local gaming store. That's another game I would love to get into, but only so much money to spend on miniatures

Me too! In Indiana where I grew up, that's how I was taught, I didn't even know what the CSS Virginia was until I started getting interested in gaming the Civil War.

I call it Virginia when specifically referring to the Confederate ironclad to differentiate from her past as the Merrimack.

There were several examples of one side capturing the other's ship and not renaming it, just the USS or CSS changed.

I completely agree. I have tons of miniatures for games I haven't ever played! At least I enjoy building and painting them.

Also having a 3d printer allows me to print things I may not have otherwise purchased.

Yes, there's definitely a nice variety of wargame-scale Civil War ships. Resin and white metal
That's a nice collection you have!
I have a collection of 1/1200 scale WWII ships, though I don't play. I just like the way they look.
I look forward to seeing more of your collection!

Best regards,
Brad

Thanks!

I would have preferred metal miniatures but the lack of a US seller pushed me th 3d prints.

Hindsight what it is, I think I would have preferred 1/1200 for a smaller table, but these are still a blast to paint.

I love ironclads and those are really cool. I just drove through Vicksburg on my way home from Florida this week. I've always wanted to go to the USS Cairo museum, hopefully next time I'm through that area I will.
