Hi Guys

Been working on this project for a couple of weeks, just not had chance to post.

Its the Revell 41 pick up, but this is going to be another abandoned rusty wreck, I'm trying to go even further with the vehicle abuse this time, really rusty, bits missing or rotted away and sunk into the dirt being swallowed by nature.

This is the donor car

First job was to change the grille, which started out as this

I used bleach to de-chrome it then cut between each vertical bar, which meant breaking a few bars but it's gonna look trashed anyway. Then I bent some of the bars and added some scratches to give it some age

I looked at a lot of reference photos showing this type of truck coming apart over years so decided, foolishly, to cut lots of parts away from the truck. This included using a knife to cut both cab doors and both rear arches, which was an absolute pain to do and involved a lot of blood from my thumb! I also re made the seat so I could make it look saggy, re-made the truck bed from balsa after cutting the cross supports from the original and made up some brake drums as this will be without wheels.

Here are the pictures after that work

Once the final configuration was set I primed with vallejo black, airbrushed various brown and rust colours then sealed with gloss. Then I used the hairspray technique with Vallejo light blue to show an aged paint job. Then some more layers of satin varnish and light brown, dark brown and green filters brought the paint to the right faded look.

Plenty more layers to come yet, with oil rust, green algae and moss and that's without the base!

Thanks for looking

Looking wicked! I really like what you did with the grill. Definitely adds a lot of realism. Sorry about the loss of blood. ;D

Thanks for the comments guys

Did some severe rusting with various rust pigments fixed with isopropyl alcohol, also added some faded green pigments to the mix

Then I used white glue to stick real earth down to the base...

...and when dry stuck the truck down and built up layers of dirt, Mininatur grass & moss, some real twigs and moss, finishing with a layer of dried leaves and here's the finished article
