Welcome Z, I am also a retired man of the trades, welder machinist and metal fabricator for near 50 years being i still repair and make parts for medical instruments. Been a model builder from the age of 10 and off and on through the years, mostly cars. Got back to it about 6 years ago when i discovered resin and 3d printed parts. Now i can build anything i can imagine. Looking forward to your builds, and as the crew has said we are all here to help all you have to do is ask. Thanks for the welcome! It remains to be seen how much modeling I'll do. I have several other hobbies. This is more of a "crappy outside" sort of hobby for me. I probably built two cars as a kid, two planes as a young adult, then notta til now. When I was a kid I tried building my version of the Enterprise out of toilet paper tubes and construction paper and recently thought it was time for an actual model of the Enterprise. In the earliest stages and it is a bit tedious. But so far, so good, and I am actually enjoying it as long as I don't sit there for too long at a time. While I was researching for the project, I stumbled on this forum and thought it would be a great source of information and advise. And it already has been. Have a good one!

Good deal sir, i did the same, i left facebook about 3 years ago, i also found this site to be the best choice, it has a good bit of traffic from members and people that just stop by to look. I enjoyed running a group on FB but it was just cars, this site lets you enjoy all the different types of modeling. Please post up some pics of the Enterprise build in the space forum so we can cheer you on.

I'm just getting started on a 1/600 Revelle USS Enterprise. It's going to take me a while because I'm trying not to make any mistakes if I can help it. I just spent a few hours painting the backsides of the windows. Tedious! I had to walk away before I ended up crosseyed! Lol

Welcome! You're going to love this group.
And don't worry about making mistakes. It's how we learn and get better!
I once had a boss who used to tell us he would rather us be bold and make mistakes, than not make any mistakes. He also told us not to make the same mistake twice.
That was good advice.
