I really want the cockpit to pop
. I just eyeballed a couple grey shades and some emboss powder I had on hand. Finally got handy with 3mm and 2mm Tamiya tape on the door panels. How did i live without it? I'm trying to think of something to use to show piping around the seat inlays.

The PE set finally arrived. Question now is, do I sand down the ash trays and risk making a mess of things, or press on without that little detail? Keeping in mind the interior is a pearl white rattle can so touch ups would be more difficult.

Fiddly, but with strategically placed dots of glue, and minimal tension, would a proper scale elastic rigging work?
That's a sharp color combination!

Is there any rule of thumb when it comes to engine bay color? When the body has the firewall and wheel wells, etc. molded in, how much is body color and how much usually black?

That does seem odd.
Yup, just be sure to get the right weight for your purposes. There is some that is not black. Test the paint first, I used acrylic.

The firewall was body color. The rest, including the inner fenders, were satin chassis black. I looked it up and note that on the factory triple carb setup the valve covers and oil filter housing for the El Dorado were a medium gold. That was only for that option and only on the El Dorado.

Thanks for that. There is no definition line on the kit where the fenders meet the inside bay wall. So I tape one off. No worries. However, are not some makes or models typically know to have engine bays that are body color? I'm going to hit post and go research my own question.

Not that I'm aware of but I'm not well versed in all GM and Cadillac offerings. Primarily a Chevy guy.

Not happy with the finish. It was too hot outside and or I was too far away with the Duplicolor can. It came out grainy. Not really what I would call orange peel. So we will knock it down a bit and see if we can't get a smoother coat.

Nah, we can save it. I appreciate the sympathy though. There is such a difference in nozzles on rattle can brands (Tamiya/Rustoleum/Dupli-Color) it's hard to get consistent coverage. Different brands, different spraying techniques. That's part of the fun, right? Sadly, I just can't justify and airbrush setup in my current situation.

Any tips on getting some chrome accents onto the steering wheel?
Can I cut BMF that thin? Can I freehand some thin paint lines and have them match 4x? Masking 4 stripes seems like overkill. I know I should have done this before assembly. I purposely left them off but now I think it needs it. Thoughts?
