One of four main plywood fins. To reduce the amount of sanding, filling, priming etc I've chosen to use a papering method.

I started using tracing paper with minimal results. Then I switched to regular printing paper. IMG_0001 (7).JPG
Much better. Now I just need to prime. I also switched from using thin CA glue to spray adhesive. I'll run a bead of CA around the edges to seal and fill the edges.

I've a total of 12 fins to do in this manner. As I move up the rocket the fins get smaller.

This rocket has what is called 'through the wall' fin mounting. Rather than butt gluing them to the body tube, slots were made from the factory so the root of the fins will go through the tube and get epoxied to the motor tube inside.

Yes I do. That will be covered later in my builds. The Nike Zeus will fly between 700' to 7000' depending on the motors I use.

These photos show how the 'through the wall' systems work.

This video demonstrates what is involved in assembling the fin unit and recovery system. It's a very straight forward build.

Some of the fins having received a coat of CA glue to seal the wood on these bare edges and to better adhere the paper to the edges.
