It has been a while since I started a new thread. Many of you know I tend to have way more kits in-progress than I can possibly address in a reasonable fashion, I blame that. There are some kits nearing completion that I have not even created a thread for, like my 1/32 Yak-3. or the 1/48 EA-18G (okay since it is a GB), and there are others. But I am a huge fan of ZM, and I got this kit for free at my local IPMS club's monthly meeting. I was gonna put it away to start later, but upon inspection saw it was not only open, but started. So it is not on me to break-bags right?

Don't care what you say, that is my story and I'm sticking with it! (that should be a song)

Anyway...this is what was in the box...

I thought it interesting that there were three different colored plastic in the sprues, not counting clear. A grey (most) and a black or very dark grey, and a dark low-luster silverish color.

Some parts were exquisitely molded, and others like these rudder panels were not.

Despite the colors provided paint was of course needed. A dark grey RLM color, a "black" and a bright silver. I split the bits and got them painted.

Then started on the sub-assemblies...

(you can see there I drilled out those terrible rudder pedals)

This is the rear of the 30mm firing through the spinner, and the ammo-boxes and ejection-chute. Nothing will be seen later.

Everything was going well, until I got to the instrument panel :-(

It was molded in clear plastic. I could have shaved off the 3D part and mounted a full decal over it, that sorta works in 1/48 but not 1/32. Another choice was to apply the sticker to the backside, but in my experience that makes the gauge faces not look right when viewed from outside. So the "pro modeler" option is to adhere individual faces to each gauge right?

In theory yes!

But it was not working out good enough for my tastes.

At this point I put it away and ordered some aftermarket. 3D printed decals for IP and consoles, a resin set for landing gear, and a set of 1ManArmy stencils for the exterior. Sven (owner of the company) is an awesome dude, but I confess I'm a bit afraid.

I just got notification from FedEx that the package from Ukraine via Poland will be here next week. That is why I am posting this now.

Oh...and the wingspan on this badboy is longer than a JU88/B25 in 1/48, dunno where I'm gonna put it. 1st world problems!

I've got this one in my stash and I really like the looks of the long-wing Ta-152, so I have high hopes for it. I'm really looking forward to seeing your build and how it goes for you.

I primed it about a week ago, been letting it harden much longer than I expected. No biggie, lots of others to work on. But today I put some silver down. Just inside the flaps and the lower sections that were not painted RLM76 for some reason. Used AK Extreme Metal, I really like that stuff!

Putting colors down...

Hard to see in the 1st picture, but I had major issues with the tape (Tamiya brand) leaving adhesive residue, see below.

Not sure why, but I think the metallics are more susceptible to that.

I tried 99% Isopropyl, it loosened it but I would say did not remove it. I moved to my go-to flavor of mild mineral spirits (in the background below) and that did the trick.

Then turned my attention to the topside.

Masked off the green and added the brown.

I do too- looks good!

Zm kits have great details. Now I'm wanting to pull out my zm mustang but I really need to finish these other dozen or so projects I've started. Didn't you just post about other hobbies? Did they take it down? I literally waited five minutes to reply and it was gone. I thought it was a good post.

Getting ready for some panel lining/washes. I'm lead to understand that my color (AK 3rd gen lacquer) is impervious, not as sure about the silver (AK Extreme), I am used to applying the acrylic clear, but looking to simplify things too.

Oh well...it is just money and time!

(I think the mean 3rd version of RLM81)
