Hi all!!
I buy a Glue bomb from a friend, the kit is the 1/48 Monogram Su-25.
Beside all the inaccuracies it`s a glue bomb!!
I didn´t take pictures from the very beginning but I´ll try to explain.
First, for all those who didn´t know what a glue bomb is, it´s the way many modelers call a lousy build, glue marks everywhere, heavy aplied paint, not sealed or sanded joints and other beauties.
some of this models can be purchased for some cents or as a gift, for parts.
I get this from a friend, and I´m planning to rebuild it.
first in order it´s to break apart as many parts as possible and stripe all the paint with oven cleaner.
this model was so bad glued that it´s very easy to tear it apart.
please be gentle with me, it´s my first glue bomb
The kit is mostly in parts as when new, and then stripped the paint.
I like a cheap oven cleaner available in grocery stores.

I don´t like the kit´s cockpit so a resin is in order.

There are too many glue marks and a little paint that can´t be stripped.
all this needs to be repaired.

This guy even left a horrible finger print !!

Has CSI been called in to check the finger print? I have saved a few glue bombs in the past, have fun with it.

Oy, what a mess! Looks like you're off to a good start getting the old paint striped off and the parts broken down as best you can. The cockpit looks weak but I understand that the R-M Frogfoot model was based off of the prototype and understandably the pattern maker had to guess on the cockpit details.
This should be interesting to see take shape.

OOohh good luck.
Simple green works well as a paint stripper.
As for the glue, might be a sand back and rescribe jobby.
Looking forward to seeing progress.

Thanks for your words guys! :)
Yes the original Monogram kit was injected in orange plastic.
One of the wheels is almost fully cover with CA.
so I made a resin copy from the *good* wheel.

Ok. it´s not perfect, but at least it can be used. :)
the two inner wing suports are wrong, they are too long, so I need four of the external suports per side, so I clean the best one and made 8 copies of it. and a couple for the missile rail supports.

I have a resin cockpit for this model from NeOmega.

And a few pieces from FM

I didn't know making your own resin parts was a thing...

Would love to see a step by step on that.

Thanks for the words guys!
Making resin parts is not too difficult, let me find some time to make a step by step, meanwhile you can check the Smoot-On page for some tutorials.
The inside of the intakes is beyond repair, so I´m planning FODs
Fill the inside with Play Do and then make a impression with dental alginate,
I fill it with plaster to get the masters to vacuform the covers.

On another forum, in another time, i saw a guy do something similar.
Except in his case it was a 32nd scale F-16, he took a spare intake, heated up the red plastic he was going to use for the FOD cover, then stretched it over the spare intake. This gave him the exact fit he was after. Trimmed it out, weathered it up a little, worked beautifully.

More or less that´s the idea scorpionmikey, but I didn´t have spare intakes so I need to make the masters to make the vacs. ;)
Not much progress here.
I proceed to clean the fuselage pieces, sand the glue marks, an fill all the dents created when separate these pieces.

First i sand with fine grade sanding sponge for wood, and then finish with 3M black sanding pad for wood varnish.

In some areas, I need to sand with sand paper, fill with CA and finish with the sanding pads.

Some details must go, so i can use resin replacements.
There is a lot of sanding work in my next future !

I'm totally enjoying this thread Aeroteto, great stuff. I have the same kit (new in box), so I'm really interested to see what you to this one. Are you building it up as a prototype model or a Su-25 production model?

Well, I guess I should shut up about how much work I'm putting into my F-16 :).

I would have never, ever started this kit. At my current skill level I may produce a glue bomb or two, though.

Un abrazo, hermano.

Thanks for your kind words guys! ;D
I´m planning on a production A series, but I´m aware this task is nearly impossible because of the inaccuracies of the kit itself.
So I´ll try to make my best and have fun in the process.
I eliminate this detail by sanding, and will replace it later with a piece of wire.

The ruder was broken when the fuselage was taken apart.
So it will be replaced with plasticard later.

Now it´s time to start working the resins.
First cutting them, lots of dry fitting and then glue them in place with CA glue.

The seat was modified to a *L* version.
NeOmega gives a DM seat, more advanced and suitable for supersonic fighters.
L version, doesn´t have arms restrainer, frontal deflector and the telescopic cases are more smaller, ( and weaker), for subsonic aircraft.
This is mine after a ligth primer coat

Thanks Model maker.
the previous owner did a lousy job when gluing the main wheel bay.
Anyway I don´t like the Monogram´s interpretation of this bay.
So a bit of plasticard and patience is in order.

This is just a mock up, it´s gonna take a lot more work to get it done.
