A couple of Christmas's ago, my wife and I were perusing the aisles at Hobby Lobby and I came upon this little scene in a box below:
She told me that this kit had my name written all over it and at first I was a bit skeptical because I usually either build cool looking autos or sinister looking aircraft or armor. The more I looked at it, however, the more I thought that this would be a cool little venture outside of my comfort zone. I decided to take the project on and over the course of the next few months would complete it to its end....which didn't turn out half bad.
All in all it wasn't a bad build aside from some parts in the kit that I just flat out didn't use.
1.) The Christmas tree in the box was crap so I tossed it in favor for one that I've had for one of my other shop dios during the holidays and it worked perfectly.
2.) There were like a bazillion packages that were supposed to be scattered on the ground in front of the shop and laying around all over the place and would've looked worse than my cluttered house garage did so I skipped out on about 50% of the packages.
3.) Cupcake construction was garbage so those didn't get built. I used the chocolates in bags and pastries to display in the glass covered enclosure on the counter.
4.) Vines and a Big Ol Bow on the sign on top of the building??..NO WAY!
5.) There is a front door with a handle and a side archway with no door??!
6.) Areas where I goofed was on the roof top panel and building squareness. I accidentally glued the roof panel on upside down with the unpainted side up. I was able to fix it by mixing some acrylic Rust and Cardinal Red together and got surprisingly close to the out of box color for the roof on the first try. I'll call that a win. I didn't pay close enough to building squareness when I put all of this together which exposed some of the checkered floor on the outside of the building. Simple fix as I just put some bordering at the bottom of the building to cover it.
Maybe I'm looking for as much (or at least getting it close) accuracy as I see in the kits that I build so I guess I'm not being all that fair.
