Guitar strings, never would've thought of that, thanks for the tip.
high E strings for electrics.... i use them a lot for stack guy wires. cheap as opposed to model "rigging wire" , easy to cut and rigid so they glue in place nicely. they do have a metallic color , so if you plan to paint you may have to prime and paint carefully to make it stick.

Domer, which caliber/gauge do you use? I know knowing about guitar strings and looking on Amazon to order some but found out that there are different ones...

This project is complete......
It's 95% of what I had pictured in my mind when I started, and I'm happy with that.
I think it looks good from afar, but I see lots of things to fix or touch up when you get your face up to it. It's at the point where it's hard to work on, or move around without knocking off or bending a handrail or something.
So, that's it, on to the next project. :)

fantastic. i enjoyed watching the build. this is motivation to dive into the 1/200 hood i have in he stash. if your hooked on ships for a while , change up the vibe and do a 1/200 arleigh burke! you would kill it

Thanks,
Even though this was my first ship build since I was a kid ( PT 109 ), I've had enough for the time being.
I'm going to move on to something completely different. I already acquired the vehicles and figures for a 1/24 scale post apocalyptic diorama. Stay tuned.....

I have to say, for a first time ship build, you absolutely crushed it! Especially in 1/200 scale. There are no hiding mistakes or offsets, or any of the like in that scale. You have a natural eye for the subject matter. It's good you're going a different way with your next build, your mind with thank you for the break before you undertake another ship.

thats the beauty of the hobby... you never know where your emotions and interests will take you next. me , im a ship junkie , so it just ends up being what period / style ship is next however i do have some armor in the stash. will be paying attention to your project !

Wow, those words hit true.
Towards the last month or so of the build I found myself in a mental "prison" of sorts. The thrill of the build had been long gone, and I just wanted to be done with it. However, I didn't want to sacrifice quality just to get it done after spending so much time and energy doing the best that I could.

I completely agree......never would have thought as a kid building models just to cover them with glue and firecrackers to blow them up, that I would be spending so much time and money these days building models just to showcase them.

Wonderful job Kevin!
From my own experience, building a battleship is big project with ups and downs, and sometimes you want to stop, but when completed and you forget a bit about those details we missed, it looks great.
Your 1/200 USS Iowa is beast! Congratulations!!!

HI Kevin sorry i dint realise you had finished this fanstatic build VERY WELL DONE SIR

OK. So I'm just gonna box my kit back up and put it on a shelf somewhere out of view until the model fairies come and build it for me. Hopefully, they're half as good as you.
