Monogram 1/48 F-105G Wild Weasel

HI jakko well several yrs ago i was with a mate up at RAF COLTISHAL an 5 of these thuds flew in an screamed down te runway an beat up the airfeld an when they landed i dint think they were that big but may be due to distant but they put up a hell of a display before they landed
an they were all in camo an this i think was the first time id seen one or 5 of them

Is it just me, or is that fuselage very narrow? No knowledge of aircraft, but that looks like threading the needle just to get in!
Ever sat in an A-4? Shoehorn optional … :D

Most fighter aircraft have fairly snug cockpits. Also, if building for speed, the smaller the cross-sectional area, the better. The Thud was built for speed.

Not my normal build method, but I decided it might be easier to build a lot of this up first, including the centerline tank and the engine nozzle thingies, but leave the wings off before painting, because I'll need access to paint the black parts of the electronic pods. Easier to glue onto unpainted surfaces than painted. I was going to cement canopies closed, but the fit is terrible, so they will be open in the end.
I think I'm ready for primer.

Dunno how much of these decision points I'll remember, but it is very interesting to hear about the airframe modeler's MO; if I ever venture into this space, at least I'll have an idea of typical gotchas and considerations! In the meantime, makes for interesting build notes.

Primer day, always a nice milestone to reach. On aircraft I usually do a light, uneven coat to help with the camo and weathering later, and so the buildup of colors doesnt end up too thick.
Another Vallejo fan, I see. I wish their gray was a little darker.
