Outta the spares bin, a suitable donor hand is found for the Autocarretta driver!

It's the grey right hand of figure on the left.
Now to prime, base coat, and I can work on the Italians and the american gun crew together with oils.

The only people i ever painted so far are the guy and girl in the futura AG car, i mixed paint for a half hr to get that cheesy so cal tan, then went full miami vice on their outfits with the blue and pink. I think my resin Big Boy and the other figures i have may finally get some color soon.

So, as I mentioned on the Pavesi thread, where this driver will end up, I tried putting down a light oil base over the primer, and didn't like it.
So, off with the oil, then a light white primer wash to get at least his flesh into the right ballpark.

Then I put down very light acrylic base colours, on which I will build shadows, highlights and tonal variations with oils.

I guess I like working the whole figure, roughing out blocks of colour, then slowly building details from there.
Even though it has been over forty years since I've painted on canvas, that is how I would do it there.

I can already see some debris I'll have to deal with before the oils go on. Not a big deal on clothes, but not good on skin.

You are good at figures, I've only tried it a few times and personally think it's just about the hardest thing to do in the hobby.

Sometimes you gotta take a photo, just to see from the camera point of view. Been taking my time, a little oil at a time, trying to keep it thin, working off a sheet of wax paper per @Steve Ski 's suggestion.
The acrylic painted uniforms will need touching up when I'm done!

... this band of brothers are making their debut on the Big Screen. Warts and all.

Some progress shots, trying 'Vlad the impaler' technique of painting the heads on spikes, separate from the bodies.
Working up all flesh and hair with oils.
Uniforms in acrylic.

Basic tones down, blending face features and detailing to follow.

Lads coming along, I had forgotten to use my Galkyd medium, which both thins and accelerates drying time for oils.

Need to even out those face flesh tones.

Thanks, there was good definition in the uniform molding... And I added a PE cross from the stash.
I've started using 'doll liner' brushes from AliExpress. They are cheap, but precise for fine detail.

They go buy different names on sites like AliExpress, sometimes 'Nail Art'... Characteristically longer, thin bristles, the longer ones good for panel liner, the short ones for detail painting.

Figure painting is an art form, one that requires a good eye, steady hand and a LOT of practice.
