Help Support Scale Model Addict:

Yellow is always a problematical colour. Solutions vary, some say a pink undercoat, some white. Me, I go for a sand primer. MRP primers are as good as their paint and I apply this in a series of light coats, it covers well and I do want a solid yellow.

This is how she looks after three light primer coats.

Then it's the turn of the IJN yellow. It pretty much just has to stain the sand primer to get the right colour.

I have been searching and looking at photos and have decided not to 'tidy up' the 'snake' areas. I did, however have a few green areas to touch up which took me 5 minutes.

I will leave it a while before using a 1500 grit sanding sponge all over and then to mist coating with gloss

It's not about how much. Just very lightly to ensure you have a smooth surface. I wipe the model with warm water and some dish soap.
I've used a bit of cloth, soft stuff like an old T-shirt. You don't want to remove much, just make the surface smooth, looking to knock down bits of fuzz and dust even microscopic bits of paint that might have dried before hitting the model.

(that is what you mean right?)

Correct.

After glossing I got straight on to decals.

ZM decals in my experience are really quite good.

At first they seem a little thick but they settle down really well into detail. You can see this below, before the use of softener solution.

However the three concentric stripes on the fuselage are problematical, well over sized. I ended up trying to get a fit and decided to spray them.

All masked up with the fuselage meatball protected by kitchen roll.

Here it is all done

Not perfect but it will do.

Decals all done

I have applied a wash. This time I decided on a sludge wash using a Flory Models wash. Normally I do in washes with AK panel line washes but I do like to have a change now and again. These washes are a lot quicker to apply, set and remove. All done in one day.

Above the wash has been applied over the gloss surface.

Below after drying I removed it using kitchen towel wiping in the direction of airflow.

It shows up better on the underside

A Matt coat next

Today I did a matt coat, some streaking and smoke then final fittings.

The poor fit of the transparencies have let down an otherwise excellent kit. The single window panes on the spine did not have any masks and neither did the nose transparency. Some overspray got through previously unseen window gaps and has marred the look. The wing tip lights did not fit at all and one was lost to the carpet monster!!!! That for me simply means that this model wont be sat on my shelf for long and will get an untimely end!

That said I really enjoyed the build and recommend the kit.

Finally I was suprised how small this aircraft was for a twin engined two seater
so a size comparison with a Hurricane.

OH Barry its looks a great model an very well made but you say an untimely end oh you are not goin to bin it are you as im dissapinted if you do sir

Looks great, do not throw it away, maybe donate to your local VFW?

Maybe not the VFW since it is an "enemy" aircraft, but at 80 years ago mark that shouldn't be an issue.

Put it on ebay and take the best offer, even if it gets $30 to $50 that can be applied to a new kit.

Barry's in the UK :) And has the regrettable habit of throwing most of his excellently painted models away after a while :(
LOL Jakko Where possible I give models way to museums or children but yes a number do get binned. After all, my builds are almost all 1/32 scale and space is a premium. My enjoyment comes from building, painting and weathering them and, besides, I still have the photos,

HI Barry well that was a nice build now what next any chance of a fast jet like one of my faves the sweddish viggin ? or a E/E LIGHTNING ?
HOPE you are feelin well sir
