Help Support Scale Model Addict:

I went to my local glass dealer, and left with new shelves. Had to drill holes into the cabinet for mounts, but that gave cause for a deep cleaning.

This is what the top part looks like today...

WOW! We don't have room for cabinets like this! I use small Ikea Billy Bookcases.

I let all my models collect dust.
I call it "real world patina".
Cheap weathering technique.

FYI I use black foamcore to build lightweight shelves and raised displays for some models and to increase shelf space within the bookcases.
Toothpicks and glue secretly hold the foamcore items together.
I also use small glass shelves sitting on top of clear plastic drink cups for stacking aircraft models.
ps. I have three more bookcases like these, with models! lol

I have had to increase the number of shelves in the Billy Bookcase , so bought sheets of perspex from our builders supermarket. Measured and cut it in the same measurements of the glass shelves, using a wood saw as using a finer blade hacksaw it would jam when becoming hot. Then using sprue to make extra shelf support pins,

This looks amazing but who does all of the cleaning or dusting?

I have a couple of Ikea ones, and they are really nice. The problem is the shelves are not configurable, and there is too much wasted space in height between shelves

The one I like most is the Rudsta

However, I recently just picked up these 2 Brottar 71" 6 shelf thing that included built in adjustable LED with a motion sensor to turn on when movement is detected near it. got one from Walmart for $219 on sale and free shipping, other from Amazon for $245 free shipping

Light can be set to cool blue tint, warm white, or cool white and you can also adjust the intensity to brighten or soften the light

Cheaper than the Ikea, and the shelves can be moved up or down 2.5" in either direction for total of 5" adjustment span. Plus being nearly the same width and depth as the Ikea Rudsta, but nearly twice as tall with 6 shelves.

The possible cons are that while the shelves and doors are glass, the side panels are acrylic/plexi-glass. Not really a big deal or con for me since I plan on putting them together and the sides will not really be visible anyway. Also frame is wood vs metal, so it is a little heavier as far as moving it if that ever becomes an issue

You could theoretically also have your own glass cut if you really wanted to fit in more shelves. Could probably squeeze in two more

Lots of room though, especially for 1/72 aircraft

being able to fit both a1/72 Bandai Falcon and 1/72 Razor Crest on a shelf is great, Her moved the 2 shelves above up higher to allow more height for this self

with some acrylic "perfume bottle" risers, you can squeeze in more aircraft to fill the height

I also really appreciate glass shelves so you can see the bottoms as well

The hardest part is figuring out the optimal way to utilize the space and try to keep similar subjects together

Still playing around with things to
