Nice mancave. Pantherman

Nice build area. One of these days I'll have to post a pic of my build area.

I normally have a pipe and a movie or tv show going and my drink of choice is Darjeeling tea.

Nice big work area you got there! Organised good too. What you got the paint splotches for?

Rob.

No ritual at all except, I research more on the subject I'm working on, pick the scheme and the paint to use - not all paint color are alike (ie: Olive Drab FS34086 or any RLM color) by brand.
Then I start building my subject.

I do have one rule at my bench…. NO MUSIC. I don't need distraction when I'm laser focus on my builds. I don't smoke and hated it growing up with both parents smoke. No drinks or food either since my bench is already cluttered as it is.

Very Laconic!

Pfffftttt… you don't know me well enough to call me laconic. I do tend to speak my mind whether they're too sensitive or offended to deal with. I don't have time for snowflakes who's feelings gets hurt too easily.
So yeah… I can be an a-hole, a b@$tard and ballsy. Ask my wife… she knows how I am outside the family yet she still loves me for it.

Now you know why I'm the Black Sheep. I take no s**ts from anybody especially after years of being bullied by neighborhood kids as a kid growing up. Thankfully, I had friends during my high school years who stood up for me and backed me up.

Laconic wasn't an insult, but if that's how you took it, then it is what it is.

That bench is way too clean for me. LOL
Don't fret…. it won't stay clean for long. No such thing as a clean bench when building. I usually do a complete clean up 3 or 4 times a year just to organize my mess. You'd be surprised what you might find you've forgotten about - even lost parts you couldn't find.

All of you guys seem to have a much more organized workspace than I. I should really spend the time to make my space better. I just crawl down into the basement to escape the world - after I'm there, it's all good!

I was sitting at the bench a couple days ago making some ridiculously small part...ya know having fun, when the furnace kicked on...nothing new... and I started hearing cicadas buzzing one after another like they do all day long in the summer....very calming sound. After awhile I broke from my trance and laughed my ass off..it's February, minus 12 degrees...2 feet of snow on the ground...when the furnace kicked off my tinnitis regained it's normal pitch.

I have had tinnitus since before the military (loud music, concerts, gunfire). The explosives and gunfire of the military certainly didn't help. I am now receiving 40% VA Disability due to hearing damage.
My routine is to grab my beverage, sit at one bench and see where I'm at with that build. Look ahead in the destructions to see if Ineed to build a subassembly. If nothing grabs my attention I will move to the second bench and repeat. I will usually end up finding something to do.

My routine often involves thinking about a build when I'm away from the bench. This is a habit I developed in my career in design.

I find it useful to think about a problem without staring it in the face, where I might get sidetracked or discouraged by details that actually might be keeping me from the solution.

If I can get familiar enough with the parts on the sprue, and with the general flow of the build described in the instructions, I can sometimes visualize assembly beforehand, and do a 'dry run' in my head. Doesn't always work, but a good mental workout for my aging brain.

At the bench I have two monitors, one usually has the instructions (downloaded from Scalemates). The other will have images from my 'Inspiration folder' or relevant bookmarked web sites.

I listen to music, preferably without lyrics as I find that too distracting. Have a sip of the brew of the day.

And of course, I leave this site open in one window, enjoying the 'remote companionship' and the knowledge that somewhere out there, there's a 'whole lotta building going on'!

I just go up to my modelling room in the attic, switch on the radio, usually the light as well and also the space heater if it's cold, sit down and start working on whatever it is I'm busy with. After a while, I will have had enough for now, so I get back up, turn the radio, light and/or heater back off, and leave :)

I listen to music have a flask of coffee and have a set idea of what I can achieve in the time available to me.
