A friend gave me 2 1/48 DC 3 kits

Joining, to read about what's new & what's still being used for building the models. The first plane will be displayed as flying, gear retracted. For a 1978 model the detail is very nice, the parts clean & crisp.

Was heavy into "N" scale for many years, anyone interested & building in N scale? I have a few items left to sell off, realistic, fine detail & weathering.

Welcome to the Herd! Is that the C-47 boxing, with the stick of paratroopers? I built 2 of those when I was a kid, when they came out. I think it still holds up well today, but then, I'm a Monogram fan. I grew up on their kits.

Yes, it has the paratroopers, the other is EAL passenger.

Ah, OK, the civilian boxing. They first released that in '91 with the new parts necessary to make the airliner. You can make it into a nice model, and I think you'll enjoy building it. I look forward to a build blog here in the forum!

That’s an oldie kit from my youth years. Basically the same kit as the Monogram C-47 with new parts.

I like the DC 3 it has been used for you name it, so here goes.

Took a few days & glue applications to get the fuselage tight, aligned & sealed. Starting at the nose, then down the top & bottom, 3 sections simultaneously. Reaching the vertical stabilizer & finishing going around it. Sanding, and blending the body seams makes the fuselage round.
Building the wing, it seems the plane is left-wing.

Right-wing on, 2ft wing span liking the size of 1/48.
Some clean-up on the main gear, is to be continued....

Nice, I'm loving the cabinet by the way. As an old wood butcher (carpenter for 40 years) it just looks classic. Pantherman

It took 7 minutes to go from this to this a damp cloth was used.




As with any filler, it takes a few applications to get it right. Still feel a ridge another coat was applied

40 years as a carpenter? I got 30 years as a custom home framer and eventually remodeling. I love working with wood. I began working with shuck components running a Timber Mill saw that cut up lumber for house trusses. I live in Phoenix so that was back in the hay day when Del Webb's Sun City was going in. We were building two blocks of homes a day. Man I miss wearing my bags. My back is screwed up lifting a beam too heavy 35 years ago, you know back when we were Bulletproof. I still got my bags out in the garage full of tools and ready to go

I'm much the same. Back and knees are knackered. Never gave it a thought lifting and lugging huge fire doors about when I was young and stupid, the result being a multitude of micro fractures in the vertebrate. I really miss the smell of just milled pine.
