I've yet to run into this myself, but if you have friends and family that think your model building hobby is nothing more than playing with toys, here's a suggestion. By them a model and tell them to put it together and make it look like it could sit in a museum. I guarantee you the moment they open the box and find they have to read directions they won't go any further. They won't go spend the amount of money you have invested in equipment to be able to do so. then after they realize they can't do it, just look at them and say, it's really sad you can't even put a toy together. That is all.

And they sure as hell couldn't put these bad boys together...over 8000 parts between the 2 of them..the excavator has 6 motors.

My dad had that opinion. He and I had a rough relationship till his last four years. He was somewhat abusive towards me growing up and never liked my interests, thinking them childish. Especially my artwork, though that was pure jealousy because he had potential to be a published artist but he let HIS father beat his dreams down. He tried like heck to do that to me, but failed all the way. (I am EXTREMELY bullheaded like that:>) Then when me and my girlfriend got together he really went off the deep end. He HATED that I had an attractive girl who was as big a nerd as me, and butted heads with her over me constantly.

But then when his health started to decline, he, I, Zoe and my stepmom had a BIG talk where everything finally was laid out. He FINALLY realized what he really had been doing. I won't go in detail, but arguments, anger, tears and finally apologies all around. For the last four years of his life he genuinely changed and became the dad I always wanted. He passed in 2017 from complications from Prostate cancer, and had two wishes: he wanted to see the Super Bowl, but more importantly he wanted to see me and her married. Me and Zoe still feel bad that he never lived long enough to see us married.

But at least he and I finally were father and son.

Sorry about the speil. Just kinda happened.

Glad your Dad came around before it was too late.
