Where can I get custom spray paints for models like royal purple? How can I make (or have made) one-off custom scale color decals to mark the lettering and logos on the aircraft model? What is a good detailed plastic scale model kit of a Boeing 727-200 jet plane that has lowered landing gear, at least as an option, and doors and windows molded into the fuselage? Will standard spray paints from Lowe's harm plastics?

Some kits I've seen only have printed doors and windows that are applied as decals which are part of the livery of a specific airline like TWA or American Airlines. Others actually have cabin door seams molded into the plastic and holes molded in for windows.custom 727 plum crazy jayp.jpg

HLJ has this kit in stock ; unclear if the fuselage windows are cut-out or just scribed , or just decals .
They show others in inventory but must be ordered :

Scalemates's list of everything ever made of this aircraft for the retail market :

You can check in with Lots Of Models to see what they have -- currently only various decal sheets for mostly 144 scale 727 in various livery --but they buy collections and stock a lot of out of print products , so you need to continuously check to see what inventory has been added :

Spray paints , which are normally alkyd , won't hurt polystyrene .

Since I am doing a one-off livery, the decals will have to be custom printed and to scale. I have drawn some plans for precise decal placement. I prefer cut-out fuselage windows with clear plastic window panes. If the seams of the cabin doors are scribed, that's fine. I've revised the wolf head for a sharp and bold look. decal placement jpeg version.jpg

Understood -- I'd acquire the kit first since the decals you print or have printed will require the scale .
There's members here with much more experience with printing their own decals .

A friend of mine has ordered decals from this guy with good results .
You can see what he can do for you :

I checked out Dave's site. He doesn't appear to print one-off custom decals for customers. That's OK. I can use Testor's clear decal sheets plus spray-on bonder. I have an HP Officejet printer I need color ink cartridges for. The decals will be gold. Black, cyan, magenta and yellow can combine to produce gold pigment. Microsoft Paint has a ruler function for measurement in inches or pixel count for sizing graphics objects once scale is determined. I don't have an expensive vector image program like Corel Draw.

One cannot use a color printer to print WHITE decals.

LOL - well , seems you don't need any help .
But thanks for asking .

Thanks for trying to offer help just the same. I have to use whatever is available on the market and improvise. Modelers have been kit bashing for many years. Virtually any model from a kit can be customized with special paint and whatnot.

well . now you're talking

This Atlantis is a big 1/96 scale kit. Larger scales are easier to work with. Precisely positioning decals will present a challenge. It will probably be easier to apply them before wings, engines, landing gear and tail parts are attached to the fuselage. I will build this plane model with gear down. Planes always look more impresive with gear down. I don't know if the kit will allow for lowered landing flaps and spoilers.

OK ,
So what " help " were you asking for ?
Cuz , it appears you don't need any , Yeah ?

So you just wanted some attention ?
Dang , dude . you're almost 60 years old , yeah ?
Go drink a good beer .
OR - bring something here others can learn from .

Here was one of my questions:

You were helpful in suggesting a model kit which I went ahead and ordered.

You're obviously not a neophyte .
I don't understand why you'd want to ask questions as such .

No, I wanted some insights on model airplane building. I don't drink, smoke or do dope. I'm addicted to fruit smoothies and Reece's Peanut Butter Cups at my age.

LOL ,
but why are you acting like you're a beginner ?
You're obviously not .
your addictions or not are of no concern here ,
You need to share with us some construction now !

You're obviously not a neophyte .

I am new to building model airplanes with custom paint. I tried building planes when I was younger but didn't have the patience then. I've botched up dozens of plastic models. Now that I'm older I feel I can do a super job with patience and learning a few pointers about perfection.
