So this was my first ZM kit and I was drooling when I opened the box. I should say I'm Six months into this hobby/obsession. I'm currently wrapping this project up but I'm including pics I did two along the way. The engine was fun to build and I was impressed with the kit.

When I went to put the engine in the fuselage I ran into trouble. Apparently I got off somewhere and I ended up removing some parts to get it to fit. Even then the front of the fuselage looked like crap. I was disgusted and put the kit aside. This pic shows how bad the fit was.

Yes sir. Good save. Those ZM kits aren't cheap. You just don't willy-nilly throw those away cuz you mess up a little bit. Be careful of paint when you assemble the engine. Or anything really on a ZM kit. When I first built a ZM kit? I finally figured out it was my paint getting in the way of a perfect fit which is what you need for these tight tolerances nowadays or you're going to get gaps and stuff isn't going to fit

Thanks that's good to know! I learned the tolerances are tight but didn't realize paint would upset it.

And this is where I'm at now. It's definitely not perfect but from what it was I'm pretty happy with my efforts.

I finished up the build today and this is final product. Apparently glass became discolored after I masked it. Disappointing to say the least but overall I'm happy with my save. I learned a lot on this build and improved my skills. My metal finish has improved and I'm much more satisfied with it- haven't settled but happy with the improvement. My fist metal finish looks like painted silver.

Very nice! There is a lot going on with the paint scheme, and I feel you pulled it off quite convincingly.
Thank you. I had to redo another section, the area in front of the tail wheel. The plan called for mixing chrome and black at 1:1. That's what I did the first time and it was not very discernible. When I redid it I simply painted a lighter coat of chrome. I kind of felt like I should have hit it with a third light coat but I'm still happy with it.

BZ! What paints did you use for the metal underside of the plane?
It looks like the effect I would like to achieve on a plane I am currently working on.

I did a base coat of alclad gloss black and AK chrome. The section in front of the tail wheel was supposed to be black/chrome at 1:1 but I ended up just spraying light coats of chrome so the black bled through. Matt varnish.

Thanks! I'm going to have to store that technique away and give it a try in a week or so..
