I love 70s car chase movies!
So fittingly, i figured my first build in about 20 years should be something fun like that.
Behold the White Lightning / Gator McKlusky Tribute car!
Couldn't find a 71 Galaxie (if anyone knows of a 71-73 Galaxie 1/24-1/25 kit LMK) so used a 70 police car.
Picked the police car because it would have a shotgun & radio that a bootlegger would also have (they would right?)
Got the Torino for the wheels, exhaust & some race car parts.
I figured the guys building the moonrunners were building stock cars too.

The backsides of the fronts i painted met silver to simulate disc brakes, the rear gunmetal for drum backing plates.
Had a hell of a time painting the letters. Will look around the forum for tips.

A proper bootlegger would have a shotgun at the ready.
The shifter I made with a piece of chrome stalk. I laid a tiny (tiny) bead of putty on newspaper & set the stalk in it overnight.
When dry, filed it carefully, painted aluminum & had a Hurst shift handle.

The cop car had a Boss 429(!) that of course I used.
I'll use the Torino exhaust.
The Torino had a dual quad intake for it's non-boss 429 (385 Series in Fordspeak) I had to dremel a bit to get the fit.
So in the movie when Gator meets the cop mechanic and opens the hood, it's clearly a single four barrel. BUT when he's commenting on the engine he says 'dual carburetors'.
It's my tribute so it gets dual carbs.

Almost done!
Comments welcome!
I have pretty thick skin so critique is ok too.
Deciding on next 70's tribute.
Any suggestions?

That looks great!

Looking good, I am planning on doing the same, I like the Torino stock car wheels and tires
This was the first thing I thought about when I saw this kit was available too.
My parents had a 69 Ford Custom ex-detective car from the San Antonio PD, 390, HD suspension with a sway bar in the rear, cool car.
Can’t wait to see yours finished.
