I'm glad it evolves with the story, the characters have aged, the vehicles/craft will have new models as time goes on as well.

It looks closer to a headhunter but I think its something else/different version

Star Wars site says its's an X-Wing, so it's just the next version we see 30 years later

& as Quaralane said they've used the original concept drawings by Joe Johnston & Ralph McQuarrie as inspiration
