The Fine Molds Slave-1: My entry for the 2012 SMA Spring Contest

Hey there, Smusno,

The gold is a mix of Vallejo Brass and a touch of Silver (also a Vallejo color) but if you need a straight out of the bottle paint, Tamiya's Titanium Gold is a perfect match.

I have a little progress to show off here. I have added some weathering and a lot of engine grime to some of the under carriage parts of the Slave-1.
For the side wells, I started with a base coat of Vallejo Natural Steel and detailed with some Brass.

On top of this I've added a subtractive wash of AK Engine Grime and some soot to bring out the details and add a layer of dirt ever present in the Star Wars Universe.

The same technique was added to the Under carriage itself.

An additional layer of Vallejo Smoke was added next to enhance the dirty look of the engine parts.

I've also started adding the lights to the interior of the model, more pics later.

Oh man.... all that grime, and weathering you did to the underside makes it look like it is constructed out of metal. Great!
And the paint work on the outside is great too....with all the chipping!!!!
Kewlness!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks a lot, fellow addicts

I've got a few more pics today of the Slave-1. I wired the lights into this bad boy and so far so good...nothing has blown up. I still have to assemble the stabilizer thingies and get those attached to the main hull. There are still a few more pieces to glue in and I should be ready to get some weathering done on the entire model.
Again, as always Thanks for checking out my stuff and continued luck with your contest entries.

That's excellent work! I love your choice of lighting. Looking forward to your weathering!

Fantastic job on the lighting ! I hope I'll be able to add things like this to my blackhawk build.......such skill....I hav a feeling I'm going to be burning/ cutting my fingers alot in the coming months :)

The lighting looks fab, great placement very subtle. I couldnt tell if you have lighted the top sideways engine? Is that something your ganna do? I chose not too on my 1/72 but looking back I would of liked to have made a clear cast of the part or even drilled it out like my 1/144. Keep up the good work mate. ;D

This_looks_simply_WHICKED!
Man, You've nailed the lighting for the Firespray-class, thats for sure!
Saved the pics on my harddisc - will be rewatching and enjoying later, and showing to the children of my children ;)

This is something I thought of working on, but with the time limit of the contest and my work schedule, I just didn't have the time to cast a new part. The beauty of the FM kit is that you can take the part you need and simply cast it to fit the housing.
I do want to thank all of you guys for the exceptionally kind words on my build here.

Great work so far, the weathering really makes this look real and the lighting is spot on

Fine build!
