T-33A Cuban-1/48 Testors---NO LONGER IN PROGRESS-KIT TRASHED

I have added mass quantities of putty. I filled all the gaps, waited about an hour for it to sink in then added another coat. May need more after sanding. I guess this is what is known as a "Putty Queen".

Replacement kit on the way. I started sanding and there are porosity holes beneath putty . I am not spending my days puttying, it is getting old like me and I refuse to do it. Have the Academy kit which looks much nicer, still replacing ejection seats.

I hate having to use putty so I pretty much stick with Tamiya though I have built some Academy and Hasegawa kits that were great fits. I hope the Academy kit is a good fit.

I build models for relaxation and I like a particular subject. I don't mind a bit of a challenge but when it becomes work I am right back to where I was before I retired. I am defeating my purpose and no longer enjoying the build. Tamiya is good fit but they don't make a lot of what I like and they have been known to have shape issues. I do prefer their A6M2 Zeros and F4U Corsairs though.

Keep us posted, would like to know more about Academy quality, trying to decide which Indianapolis to go with, Trumpeter or Academy.

I like Trumpeter myself, built a few 1/350 ships of theirs, doing a Fletcher Class with square bridge now. I did a 1/350 USS Buckley and put it in a display case with a 1/350 U Boat. Buckley was a destroyer escort they used in movie "The Enemy Below" back in mid 50s. Good old WWII flick!

Beginning to read a book about the Abercrombie DE343, John C. Butler class, would love to find a 1/350 of that.

Find the article about DE 51 and its ramming a U Boat in WWII, hand to hand combat! In acrylic case.....better focus of U Boat.USS Buckley, U Boat, PT-109.JPG

I have discovered that by using stretched sprue and Plastic Weld applied with the Touch n Flow applicator I’m able to get solid neat joins that require little if any sanding in larger gaps. The thin Plastic Weld glue melts the plastic really well. Thin gaps can be easily be closed using this glue and applicator which is a must when using Alclad that shows every imperfection under the metallic paint.
Dod you receive the Academy kit and how is it going with it?

Here's a link to where you can get that Creature model. I built many of them as a kid.

I'm on the hunt! I will find one and buy it. I am reverting to my childhood! I did The Mummy, Phantom of the Opera, and Creature from the Black lagoon, I may have done others but these stick in my mind. I think the Creature is the coolest looking, but I remember the Phantom really came out nice and was an excellent paint job for a pre teen me.

How times have changed. As a kid I used to try painting with those Testors glass bottle enamel paints using a pant brush.
Needless to say I was always frustrated I could not get a nice brush stroke free surface like on all the kit boxes
Oh the wonders of an airbrush

That's why now it is nice to revisit those model we made a mess of when we were younger and give them a proper build
I remember putting them together quickly so I could play with them! :p

That's a really great idea, might even be better than spru goo
