Category: Sci-fi
Name of Build: YT-1300p Predelivery
Kit manufacturer: Fine Molds
Scale: 1/144
Description
Chrome plating has been considered the bane of many modelers. I'll admit it's a challenge to work with, as the hard reflective surface doesn't adhere well (scraping and sanding is necessary). This kit was surprisingly easy to build in terms of parts breakdown and assembly logic. The real challenge for me was to turn a novelty into something more interesting, thus my arrival at the "pre-delivery" paint work. Out on the web there are plenty of photographs of Russian-manufactured fighter jets (MiG-29 and Flanker-family craft) that are unpainted prior to exporting. Many of the un-primed and primed appearances feature mis-matched yellow, gray and metallic paneling, which was replicated with this build. The final touches for panel variation included a dull coat on the entire craft with follow up highlighting of specific panels with Future.
