Second entry. This one is a figure from Scale 75. It's 75mm (roughly 1:24 scale), and it's produced in metal.

Here's some close ups:

IMG_20130403_184113.jpg

- Mandatory box photo. For all you fans of unboxing.

IMG_20130403_184243.jpg

- Sculpted base.

IMG_20130403_184315.jpg

- Lower body. Doesn't fit into the base properly, the right foot slot needs to be removed I think. Or the slot on the base can be widened out a bit. There's one annoying seam line down the right side ribcage. But, a quick filing will clean it up no problem.

IMG_20130403_184340.jpg

IMG_20130403_184351.jpg

- Upper body, front and back. The right armpit needs some epoxy filling. But that's it.

IMG_20130403_184417.jpg

- The shield. There's some flash here and there and a small seam. But looks easy to clean up.

IMG_20130403_184454.jpg

- Hands with axes, and ponytail. I didn't look too closely but I didn't see any obvious cleanup spots.

This is probably the cleanest metal kit I've seen. Ever. And most detailed metal kit as well. I suspect the Scale 75 kit that Spud is doing is also highly detailed.

Gonna be working on this one when I can't work on the Orbship (while it's drying, or while I'm waiting for parts and things, or when I get angry at PE).

Cheers for looking,
Derek.

OMG an update.

IMG_20130413_123856.jpg

- Cleaned and primed

IMG_20130417_222647.jpg

- Pants, boots, pouches, belt coloured/shaded. Based all the skin, the shield and the underside of the fur cape. Will have the lower leg wrappings painted up tonight (hopefully).

This guy is gonna get covered in mud, dirt and blood as well. So there'll be quite a bit of weathering. I'd also like to get some tattoos on him but… we'll see.

Thanks for looking.

That’s a really cool figure so I will be watching your build closely.
BTW it's great that this year so many people joined the Figure category :)

Saturday update.

IMG_20130427_233009.jpg

- Everything from the belt down is complete (except the mud he's standing in). Also, the varnish is all wrong. It's got a blast of Vallejo matte. But I'm gonna hit it with testor's dullcoat, then brush on some satin on the leather bits. The inside of the cloak is also mostly done. Just need to blend one spot a bit better. Then add some dark shadows once I attach the two pieces together (once the whole thing is together it will also get loads of mud and stuff).

IMG_20130427_233052.jpg

- Legs and mud. The mud just got a base of leather brown. Gonna pigment it up. I want gross wet mud as well.

IMG_20130427_233153.jpg

- Cloak. Check out that horrible shading on his right side, I like the left side shading it turned out better. Man, white is a pain to shade. Especially if you've never done it before. Well, haven't done it since art school…

Thanks for looking!

Sunday update.

I've attached the body pieces together. I'll paint the shield separately before attaching it. And the base I'll do most of the pigment work before attaching it. I'll just build up a little around the feet after it's been glued down.

IMG_20130428_154101.jpg

- I also did the fur of the cloak. I basically put all my various brown paints on a palette from darkest to lightest and heavy dry brushed in the same order.

IMG_20130428_154123.jpg

- I'm going to add some more of the lighter browns across the shoulders just to add some extremely subtle highlighting.

Cheers,
Derek.

Thanks Quaralane!

Coming along nicely

Okay, another tiny update. I got pigments all over the base and started shading (which I feel I suck horribly at, so good learning).

IMG_20130501_213139.jpg

- need to get some glossy varnish on it to make it more wet mud like. I might spray some darker brown on it as well.

IMG_20130501_213215.jpg

IMG_20130501_213102.jpg

IMG_20130501_213045.jpg

- started by blocking in some really light shading. Haven't started any highlighting. Still need to get darker in spots and clean it up a whole bunch.

At the moment all I see is bad painting so I'm probably going to switch back to the Orbship now that I have a colour scheme for it worked out.

Cheers,
Derek.

Big update. Unfortunately there's lots of lens flare. Sorry. He's been matte varnished and the base has been gloss varnished so it looks like he's standing in mud. His boots are going to be wet and muddy.

IMG_20130521_180223.jpg

- Fully assembled (not glued to base yet), everything but the mouth, eyes, and nipples are done.

IMG_20130521_180257.jpg

- I made him a dirty blonde.

IMG_20130521_180327.jpg

- I said I wouldn't do strips. Apparently I lied.

IMG_20130521_180426.jpg

- Vallejo Liquid Gold silver. Best metallic paint ever.

Cheers,
Derek.

Thanks guys! Yeah I'll get some glare free photos up tonight. I do like the glare though, it hides all my mistakes. ;)

Looking good!
Too bad about the glare in the pix.

Definitely looking good

Completely glare free and fully assembled. Now to finish the face and start adding blood and mud.

IMG_20130522_213638.jpg

- Full body.

IMG_20130522_213706.jpg

- Upper half close up.

IMG_20130522_213734.jpg

- Lower half. Still have to add some more mud effects, so that bare spot will get cleaned up along the way.

Cheers.

Oh man, finished. Personally I am very happy with how this figure turned out. I've never painted a figure before, aside from war gaming minis or the figs that have come with the kits I buy. Which end up getting painted the same way I paint a game figure (quick and dirty). So this was a huge challenge and was well out of my comfort zone.

I can't see myself painting figures again. Or at least not very often. Maybe I'll do another one for SMA BSC 2014.

Okay, here's some photos of the finished thing. These aren't fancy photos. I'll get those up tomorrow, or this weekend now that Scott has extended it by a week. I'll be gone to Minneapolis next week for a conference so I gotta wrap up this week anyways. :)

Thanks for looking, it's been a blast!

Nice finish! And it's perfect that you are happy with it...That, a far as I am concerned is the goal. :D And you should be happy with it, it looks great! AND I think you should do more of this scale....Ya know, break away from your gaming minifigs.
There are some super kewl resin figs out there, and some really nice sci-fi, comic book, styrene kits out there too.

Thanks mate. Glad you like it! ;D

Scale 75 have some other figs that I want to paint up as well. I have this fan made Ma.K pilot that a friend made as well that I really want to get to.
