Reference Question - TBF Avenger .30 cal

I've scoured the internet with little success or satisfaction, attempting to better understand the placement of the .30 cal Browning that was mounted in the cowling, top right, in early TBF Avengers. Does anyone have a definitive reference as to how far the barrel protruded, if it protruded at all? Most real-life photos show the grooved cowling but no barrel. Not sure whether to attribute this to its removal (restoration shots) or the mg's actual placement within the fuselage. The historic photos I've found in black/white do not offer good enough resolution to determine placement either. Any insights appreciated.

All I could find on early .30 Cal cowl gun was the following info. Hope it helps. From the drawing it looks as if there is only a small portion of barrel that protrudes. Maybe zoom in on the photo and make a judgement call on how far to extend the barrel. .........

Thanks, based on real-life photos (scale models vary), would you say the .30 cal in the cowl sticks out and is visibile? Or is it just inside the cowl goove and NOT visible? Much appreciated.

I'd say it sticks out about 4" in real scale. Certainly is visible, not covered up by sheet metal.
