I think this is a valid idea. Perhaps split them just once, at say 1/48 for example, so you don't end up with too many categories. Or what if the categories themselves were scales or scale ranges? All planes, armor, whatever in  1/72 scale go in one category etc. Yes, it's different than everybody else does it but there's nothing wrong with a little rebellion. ;D

I don't know what the relationship with Badger is like but as gracious as badger has been I'd be very careful. If they were to dish out gift certificates i doubt the amounts would be anywhere near the retail cost of the prizes. Giving away an AB only cost them what it costs them in time and materials to make(Not that that is insignificant). Besides, if you have too many airbrushes why not just offload some of them. Even give them away.

I think this comes under the heading of "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth."
