Sorry about my absence. I've been deep in my laboratory cracking the Polar Lights decal code. Thanks to input from everyone who has replied, the code was cracked.
The photos are of my latest build. This one crossed the Rubicon. These decals are all Polar Lights! They look absolutely magnificent! Painted on! You can't tell they're decals at all.
So here's the SECRET RECIPE I used:
Holloway House Floor Wax!
I applied the wax with a brush. In fact, I brush painted this whole model. No brush marks.
First, put a clear coat on (gloss or flat) to over your weathering job.
Next, brush the ship down completely with a good coat of floor wax. Dry overnight.
Next, when applying decals-cut decals out and dip for one or two seconds into HOT distilled water. Place decal on paper towel to let the decal soak up the water. Don't let your decals sit in the water for any length of time; this will wash valuable adhesive off (especially AROUND THE EDGES) and you'll have adhesion problems like have been driving me looney.
Then, brush on FLOOR WAX onto the model where the decal will go. Slide decal in place. Dab with damp paper towel to press decal onto model surface and remove air bubbles.
Let the decals and floor wax set and dry about an hour. Put another good coat of wax on top of the decals and let it do its magic overnight.
I'll never use MicroSet/Sol again. Floor wax nukes that stuff completely. Well, this concludes this thread now. Thanks for all the help.
