Good beginnings!
That's a nice little kit, and so is its 1/48 bigger brother. Airfix made quite a splash when they released it. I look forward to your next update!
Best regards,
Brad

Ah, I was wondering if this would turn out to be a Flying Tigers build. IIRC this kit comes with Chuck Older's plane, while the 48th scale version has Robert Smith's plane. I have a bunch of aftermarket decals to build a whole bunch of them. Speaking of which, I have four unfinished Academy 48th scale Flying Tigers P-40Cs I still need to do chalk weathering on to finish. They've been languishing in a box for years now. This Airfix kit sure is nice though. Great cockpit interior detail.

I have absolutely no idea who "17 Seconds" Robert Smith is. When somebody mentions the name Robert Smith, my thoughts turn to things like forests, spidermen and inbetween days :)

Robert Smith didn't start teasing his hair wild and wearing dark eye makeup until he was guitarist for Siouxsie and the Banshees for a short while, playing for both bands simultaneously and completely exhausting himself. (Watch the Siouxsie video for "Dear Prudence" and you'll see Smith.) He was a real Siouxsie fanboy and she gave him style and makeup tips. So much greater is this image everyone has of him with the big hair and such that when an impersonator plays a small appearance as Robert Smith in the movie "24 Hour Party People" giving his condolences after Ian Curtis's suicide, this is the inaccurate portrayal used although in 1980 he didn't look like that yet. The song "A Forest" you mentioned was on the album 17 Seconds. watch the video for that song and you'll see him when he still dressed like a preppy with short hair. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cure_discography So yeah, I'm more than just a passive fan of The Cure. I don't own all of their albums, but I do have several. Haven't listened to the newest one from last year, but I'm told it's a good one.

Robert T. Smith, on the other hand, is the one we have to thank for bringing a camera to China while he flew for the AVG. He is the one who took so many photos during the year the Flying Tigers flew before being absorbed into the Army Air Corps. It's because of him taking so many photos of the Warhawks that we have reference as to how the planes looked.
