Got in some more reference books for both inspiration and just for general looky looing.

Not sure if available outside the US but thrift books online have tons of stuff available for very cheap. Got all three of these for 15 USD

The uniform book in particular has great art depicting soldier uniforms up to formal officers garb in about any nation I can think to model.

Nice... picked that one up (2000 edition) in the second hand book section at my LHS. Great reference.
I do find it worthwhile also looking up uniforms and kit online (auction houses, vintage apparel, historical recreation societies), as photos sometimes give a truer (saturated) spot colour sample than the older printed illustrations.

I agree, artist renditions only get you so far when it comes to true color accuracy and equipment orientation.

It's at least inspiring if nothing less
