My Latest Project

You can build 2 versions with this kit. The turbine powered one and the chevy engine version. I'm doing the turbine powered one. Also be careful there are a lot of small parts that can be lost.

After 3 days here is where I stand with it. Waiting to paint the body so I can finish the build, but the weather is so bad I can't airbrush it.

The batmobile is all done. There were some breaks in the weather so I got the airbrushing done.

Although what caused the orange peeling is a mystery. I tried 3 or 4 times to get rid of it. Even airbrushing it and varnishing it in the house and it always came back :(.

I had that problem once and I could only trace it back to different brands of paint being layered.
From then on I only used the same brands of paint and neve had an issue

may have been one of the active ingredients reacting with something in the other brand
I'm no paint guru, but that's what I came up with

That, my friend, is a beauty! An iconic motor vehicle if ever there was one. I especially like your canopy and stripe work.

As for orange peel, I’ve been living with that my whole life, so it doesn’t bother me.

I think that using similar paint brands may be part of the solution, but finicky stuff like humidity in the air, and drying time has something to do with it too. When I get I good finish, I just celebrate and move on! It’s more luck than science with me.

Thanks SF.

I use krylon paint and varnish for the body, however it was painted during a break in the rain so probably it was the humidity. When I use an airbrush I don't have that problem only with rattle cans. I just don't understand it and I probably never will.

Oh well.

And thanks for the input andrew. I don't use spray paints that often, I normally hand paint everything or at least I did until my daughter bought an airbrush for me, now I use the airbrush for the large areas and hand brush the details.

Humidity and temperature drops are notorious for tampering with paint finishes, and some of the off-shelf spray cans use harsh solvents that can craze paint and plastic.

After years of trial and error, I’ve found a system that works most of the time, and this is just for large areas such as vehicle and spaceship fuselages. Vallejo primer, topped with Vallejo Model Air, and sometimes finished off with a light coat of Future if I want a shiny look. Also had to go through a bunch of airbrushes, but currently a cheap Chinese one is doing the trick.

But high humidity days are out! Not worth the risk. And I still consider a successful paint job something of a miracle...
