Mpc ERTL Darth Vader Tie Fighter

Started glueing this thing. It's somewhat warped, so it'll have to be glued in stages... Lol.

Some major putting to do in the front insets, but that can't be done before it's all glued up. IMG_20210325_215325.jpg

Thank u very much... When I'm done glueing it I'll take a picture of the bad spots.
Please don't do it ;-) it's perfect ... actually I would like to see these problems and how they were fixed :)

She's glued...

As promised here are some pics of the bad fitting frontal detail.

These are the insets on the rear facing panels of the "arms"... I SHOULD have scratch build these, but I just didn't wanna bother. They where pretty bad fitting and they're basically inaccurate all together.

Scratch build detail in the big holes on the central hull. I used the original detail and added on.

The rear panel certainly lends it self to some scratch build detailing me thinks.

Definitely bringing back the memories
Well... I haven't build this before. But I'll certainly remember it. Then again, compared to the Revell ch53 I'm building this thing goes together like a dream.!

Hopefully the last putting to do, I somehow managed to have the worst fit on these when the hull was still not glued and I had the most acces. Fearing that the fit was just as bad when they where glued, I'm pleasantly surprised that gap and edge is somewhat manageable!

So the blasters on this thing where... Well, crap really.

I decided to scratch some new ones outta some Legos, blasfemi I know!

Drilled out the sockets and glued some sprues in there for a secure hold.

I had too small diodes from that sound card I canibalized in the beginning of this project. They fit perfectly.

They're probably a bit oversized, but they look the part.

Actually not a bad cross universe application there. In my legos world those same parts are often used as guns, blasters, cannons or the like anyway so a completely logical kit bash use from my perspective. Not the first time I've seen Legos parts used for detailing a kit. If it is blaspheme then you are not alone!

Thank you for the support!

I must admit tho... Chopping up Lego will never come easy to me... They are after all the best toy in the world

Anyway... This thing is about ready for paint. For some reason the references show the black panels borders on the wings to be black as well, which will make masking a breeze.

My own portion of Danish heritage completely agrees with you BLT! Hard to chop up good Legos. They are a fantastic toy with many uses far beyond the original intent when exposed to a creative mind. You have just confirmed it here. It's for applications like this I save the broken ones. You never know where they might come in handy.

Project looking good!

Hey guys
Sorry for the long absence... Life finely settled down, and we where able to get back into painting this thing.

We started with af mix of Grey and white... But it was too cool, so we added some brown.
Now I know that the color is impossible to match to the real thing. The photo in the book has a destinct brown hue... The lighting, lens, camera and the print of the book all influence the final photo...

The color in the movie is another thing entirely...

So... We did the best we could, and we had fun.
