ebay charity auction Sunday 7/3/2011

Hey all!
It's on, right now! I'm doing a charity auction on ebay. Culling my collection, there are twenty kits and tools in the mix with half-to-all proceeds going to various charities (that I'll pick when I list them). I'm looking to set it all up on July 3, 2011 and runs for a standard 7 day auction.

Most of it is standard plastic, a couple pieces of PE, four tools and a gotham city prop.

I'll post updates here

Thanks all,
Tom

Culling my collection, I've come up with 22 kits and tools that may be of interest to others here. I have no way of determining what the exact ebay/paypal/shipping fees are ahead of time, so these auctions are not quite 100% of all proceeds to the charity mentioned. Having spent hundreds of dollars on these items myself, I simply can't afford to spend more money covering the associated costs of auctioning and getting them into your hands. Any monies leftover will be used to cover the inherent costs involved. Some kits were given to me and some I paid for. The kits given to me will have a higher percentage going to the charity mentioned than kits I paid for out of pocket. Thanks for your understanding on this point.

Everything will ship the best I can afford via USPS with Delivery Confirmation.

I just fixed all the links that were truncated. Thanks for watching guys! There's already several bids in!

Too bad you don't ship to Canada! Oh well! 8)

Some interesting tools!

Good luck with all of them!

Great gesture! BTW

Norm.

I don't? You should be able to bid. Don't worry if it says no int'l shipping, I will.

With one hour to go, the auction closes over the following two hours. Now's your chance to help some charities out! I'll post a followup video once it is over. Thanks for watching all these years and thanks for bidding today!

Thanks to you and eight other bidders!

Just figuring out the rough numbers now... You and two others won 9 items of 16 sold, 7 didn't sell. Of $500 in minimum bids total, $190 wasn't bid on at all, making $310 minimum bids which took in $461.50, with ~$371 of that going to charities off the top. Not bad I think.

Still gotta refine the numbers and see what the ebaypaypal monopoly is hitting me for on costs. Hopefully it's not too bad. I'm gonna shoot a prelim video now and post it in the next few hours.

One thing I've learned selling on ebay, start off with really low prices. It tends to attract more people to bid and get into a sort of 'bid war' and normally you will get up to what you were originally thinking of asking anyway. Sure, you run the risk of selling something really cheap but you can always set a reserve if you are wishing to avoid that.

I almost bid on the Batmobile myself. ;D

Good going!
I would have liked to bid on a couple items, but I just had to shell out over $600.00 on my car YESTERDAY!!!!!:(
So, for future reference, you DO combine shipping?

Did you outbid me on the Batmobile!?!?? You $%T*@*!%!*!! ;D

Yes I got the Bat Mobile......If you were serious enough, bid higher! My high bid was not more than I would have paid for it at my local hobby shop.

:p :p :p

This is exactly how I do my Ebay auctions. Only once or twice did I not get what I was expecting and on both occasions I had listed something wrong.

Tom: Glad you got some good results!

Thanks, guys. Yes, I think I'd call this a success.

MMM, Yes I would combine shipping. In this case, any extraneous shipping paid is going back into the charities. But normally if I had the pkg weight, I could figure out the shipping cost ahead of time. I didn't have the weights in this case, so just ballparked what I felt to be a safe number.

I think most kits went for under retail cost, not including shipping, but locally, you'd pay tax, so it was likely close to OTD in all cases, if not cheaper. Initially thought that maybe as it was a charity auction, things would go higher than retail, but that's okay. Five charities got ~$400 they wouldn't have otherwise.

Here's the prelim numbers. I should have finals by the end of the week and will post one last video.

Initial minimum bids put online: $500
Unsold items: $190
Sold items: $310

Initial number of kits : 23
Unsold: 7
Sold: 16

$310 of minimum bids pulled in $462 in actual bids.
Of that, $371 goes to charities off the top.

The ~$90 balance covers ebay-pal fees and any extraneous shipping.
Anything left over from that will go back into the charities somehow.
Will have final totals by the end of the week or so.

Thanks to everyone who participated. Five charities will soon have a chunk of change they wouldn't have otherwise.
