I dug up an old Eduard Marston Matt piece from my closet. I'll use it to display and photograph aircraft. I'd like y'alls opinions on what colors I should use to make it look authentic. I don't want pristine looks but more from in the field. Weathered. I'm thinking flat aluminum with some rust weathering but am a little unsure of how to apply. Since it's something I can go back and "fix", I'll try different things until I get it right. Here's a couple photos of the base. Thanks for ANY input and advise!!
Armored Guys I'm sure have some great ideas!!

I would use a base color more like steel than aluminum, but more dirt/rust/stain than metal.

Vintage color photos are hard to come by. There were laid on light colors (coral), medium and dark (soil), but in places like Guadalcanal has some green growing into the openings around the edges.

I think the answer is, your choices are wide open.

This is a modern photograph...

If it were me (I am planning a base for a Hellcat with some) I'd make it look like this...
